    Hi -

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere - if someone could
    refer
me to the right thread that would be great.

I have recently upgraded from a 6680 and want to save the SMS and MMS
messages on the phone. How do I do this (ideally without texting
    them
    to my new phone!)

I didn't see any obvious way to accomplish this by saving to a SIM,
    or
using the PC software to download the messages.

    Cheers,
    Chris

    Hi,

You don't seem to have mentioned what you upgraded TO, but if it is another
Nokia, have you looked at Nokia PC Suite? I've never done it(I usually
delete all my SMS messages once I've read them), but I think that lets you
backup your text messages, then you should be able to 'restore' them onto
    your new phone...(?)

    Hi Chris -

Thanks for your quick reply. Yeah, I hesitated about saying what I
upgraded to as I thought it might confuse things, but it's an LG
Viewty. I did think of sending the messages across by bluetooth, but
the messaging menus on the 6680 don't seem to have a "send"
    option... :-(

    Hmm, might be tricky.

Well, I'm pretty sure that PC Suite will let you save you text messages to
    your PC.
Assuming that the Viewty has similar software, if you fancied a challange,
you could try to convert the file that PC Suite saves into a format that the
LG software can read. Might not be too hard if both programs use a text
based format. If they use any sort of binary files, you may be into the
realms of writing some software to convert... probably not worth the hassle!
The only other hope(that I can think of) is if anyone can suggest some
back-up software that is compatable with both Nokia AND LG phones...(?)

    Good Luck!!

....or, if you use Outlook on your PC, you could try Jeyo's Mobile Extender
(http://www.jeyo.com/extender.asp). This will allow you upload SMS messages
into an Outlook folder and then download them again. It works with a range
of phones (but doesn't explicitly list LG). If you have neither Outlook or
Jeyo, both are available as fully functional time limited trials.

Thanks Chris and Paul for your help! After a bit of fighting with my
connection (I don't think LG have figured out how to connect to Vista
yet) I finally was able to retrieve the messages. Thanks for your
    help!
