I ordered a phone from an online dealer as a Christmas present; however
it didn't arrive. It was supposed to be have been despatched by Royal
Mail Special Delivery; however the tracking number I was given just said
"Information on your item is not yet available online"; when I phoned RM
about it they said that the package had never even reached them to get
put on their system.
So I phoned the dealer again today, perfectly politely but expecting a
contrite apology and a promise of delivery tomorrow; but oh no - I was
told that not only would they not be sending another phone out, but also
because they had 'lost money' on this, any future orders from me would
also be cancelled!
No doubt that they have this policy because of aggravation due to dodgy
customers taking advantage of RM sometimes not getting a signature on
delivery; I pointed out that in this case the package had not even
reached RM so how could I have anything to do with its disappearance -
all to no avail. Quite bizarre.
I assume the company will now claim - or attempt to - from RM's
insurance. I assume that RM must retain and cross-reference records of
claims for items 'lost in the post'? I'm concerned that my address may
get blacklisted, or at least get a 'strike' against it over this
incident. Can my address be passed on to other agencies/companies to be
blacklisted similarly?

It looks like you were conned. The company probably never sent you
anything but took payment, then claimed it from RM too.

That has "guilty" written all over it. They are refusing to send the
product
because they don't have it to send.

They conned you by taking payment and then lied about a tracking number
to try and put you off.

They should do to stop all the fraudulent claims, but they don't.

Why would you be blacklisted unless you made continual claims
that were false?

What for - being conned by a company that provided a false tracking
number, took payment and never had anything to send you?

I don't understand. A package fails to be delivered to your address and
you are concerned your address will be blacklisted if a claim of non-
delivery is made? I don't see your logic - what has your address done to
warrant being blacklisted?

NAME AND SHAME THEM....
Don't let others be ripped off.
Also, check your credit/debit card statements carefully just incase your
card has been used and also get a copy of your credit history.

You won't be listed on anything available publicly but Royal Mail are sure
to record addresses that are subject to claims. I doubt these guys will
claim, it was obviously never scanned in to Royal Mail's system.

That was my thought too.
I doubt these guys

Yes, makes sense actually - that hadn't occurred to me!
BTW in response to others, this was for a contract phone so no money has
changed hands at all so far - ie, they haven't simply "ripped me off".
My assumption is that somebody in their 'goods outwards' dept has given
himself an Xmas present.
But I've still got the aggravation of having to cancel a 12-month
airtime contract, plus compulsory standing orders for insurance and
'helpline' services which this bloody outfit has kindly landed me with.
