Hi All
Does anyone know if any companies out there do an insurance that would cover
you if you lost your job i.e. returning the phone and cancelling the
contract.
I know years ago you could buy this from the car phone warehouse if you
bought the phone from them on a new contract. Just with jobs unsecure these
day I want to cover myself before I take on a new contract.
thanks
Glenn

You would need to prove you had been employed for a number of years
considered
a reasonable time. Then check the reasons for termination of contract and
the type
of contract that is covered. Phone insurance is usually for scammers who
want to use
it as a cheap way to upgrade, the companies know this, so finding a genuine
policy
might be difficult. I often wonder why people need to insure a phone, in 13
years of
having mobiles I have never lost one, arranged to have one stolen and sold
on ebay,
forgotten where I have left it or been careless enough to break it.
I would love to see the top 10 reasons for insurance claims and wish the
companies
would share data to combat widespread fraudulent claims - and that the
mobile
companies would block phones they know to be stolen or subject of a claim.
They can easily do this but it means lost revenue for the calls made on
stolen phones.
They even cross reference records but the police are never interested in
dealing with
reports of theft and handling stolen goods, unless you have
friends/relatives.
You have a better chance with full employment and permanent contract, not
just a
casual one.
In your position if it is seasonal or casual work you are better off with
PAYG. Why
the need for a contract when you might not be able to afford it?
I don't know of any companies offering a rental scheme, so go on PAYG. If
it is a
job that requires constant use of a phone then your employer will provide
it.

I haven't a clue, but maybe it's worth talking to your local insurance
broker who might be able to find someone who would do this. It probably
wouldn't be super-cheap, though, so you might have to weigh up how secure
your job is.
