I currently have a contract with Bell which expires in November, and I'll be quitting my plan with them as soon as I do, because Virgin seems to offer far better deals for my needs. However, I'd prefer not to have to lay down $100 for a new phone when I make the switch so it would be nice if I could use the phone I currently have on Virgin. The problem is that I have no idea how to do this myself (and don't want to risk breaking my phone by trying) and I can't find any places in Halifax where I can bring my phone to pay them to do it for me. Does anyone know a place I could find in Halifax where I could bring my phone to get this done?
I also have a slightly older phone made by Ericsson that I used on both Fido and Rogers before I got my current contract with Bell. The fact that I had used it on both networks makes me think it might not be locked at all. Bell didn't want to let me use it on their network, but is there any reason it wouldn't work on Virgin?
Thanks for the help.

Re: Switching from Bell to Virgin, want to keep phone
I hate to bump my own threads, but it's been a month without a reply, and I'm still wondering if anyone can help me out with this issue. Thanks.

my guess is that Bell is CDMA technology correct? I know for a fact that Virgin is CDMA. now, Virgin cannot be unlocked at all (u cannot bring cells in or take them out of virgin). Rogers, Fido, T-mobile, Cingular..have the new technology (GSM) which allows you to just remove the sim card from any othese carriers and switch (as long as the phone is unlocked). In short words..tough luck. cannot be done.
By the way...what phone model are you trying to bring to Virgin?

It's an Audiovox TX-115C

Yeah, audiovox manufactures for CDMA carriers, there are softwares out there that do unlock CDMA phones, but the unlocking counld range between $40 to $50. My buddy unlocks CDMA for Sprint and Verizon and charges $45. If you'd like i can ask how much and if he can unlock your audiovox, even though I think its not worth it. Its worth it when you unlock PDA phones.
