So I have an 8230 (T-Moble) but I'm on AT&T and have BIS activated thru them... this phone has Wi-Fi and I've configured and connected to my network... why don't I see any difference?

How can you tell if the traffic is going thru the Wi-Fi connection or my normal data plan? Is there a way to only use Wi-Fi for data? I see the arrows in the corner flash up and down but this only indicates data thru AT&T yes?

I installed Opera since it has Wi-Fi support and set the switch in the options to use it but still I see no indication that I'm using Wi-Fi or any increase in speed...

    What am I missing here?

    Howdy Raffi,

What you are missing is the fact that At&t does not have WI-FI service (as far as I know anyway). So the flashing arrows are only showing you whatever internet connection that you actually have. And when they do offer WI-FI service, it would not be the same as T-Mobile's service, and may need a few tweaks in the settings to get it to work on AT&T's WiFI.

I see... I was under the impression that Wi-Fi was an independent system and did not require AT&T's blessing to operate. Since the hardware is present is there a work around to this? Can de-branding the phone help or is this service ultimately suppressed by AT&T

Since At&T now has an 8320, it should be easy enough to contact them to get the proper settings to allow the phone to use their internet service.

A good start would be to go to the AT&T site to update the phones OS (they now have an updated OS for the 8320). That should set the phone up for the AT&T internet services. Just make sure you backup your phone first, so you don't lose any thing you have now. You will also want to download the latest Blackberry Desktop Manager as well, so you can upgrade the OS via the USB cable.
