Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Launch “Settings”
- Go to “Device”
- Tap “Battery” > “Menu”
- Enable “Battery saver”
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: you can disable the phone’s connectivity features when they are not actively in use, including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth, to avoid unnecessary network scans and potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Tap the “Wi-Fi” “Location” and “Bluetooth” quick toggles to turn the features Off
- Return to “Settings” and go to “Location”
- Tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
- Return to “Settings” and access “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
- Tap “Tethering & Portable hotspot”
- Turn the feature Off
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease brightness
- Next open “Settings” and go to “Display”
- Optionally, turn “Adaptive brightness” ON or OFF
- For timeout options tap “Sleep”
- Select a lower timeout value such as “15 seconds”
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve energy until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open “Settings”
- Under “Wireless & Networks” tap “More”
- Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type”
- Enable “2G”
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: you can change your account’s settings to reduce sync and potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Open “Settings”
- Access “Accounts”
- Select an account type and the desired account
- Change the available settings to reduce sync
Minimize Third-Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third-party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect the device’s battery life even when they are not actively in use. You can disable or remove unused third-party apps to potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Open “Settings”
- Go to “Apps’
- Access “All apps’
- Select the desired app
- To turn the app off, tap “Disable” / “Force Stop’
- To remove the app from the phone tap “Uninstall”
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can improve battery life and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Open “Settings”
- Go to “About phone”
- Tap “System updates”
- Verify if new updates are available
- If applicable follow the on-screen prompts to install the update. Keep in mind that you will need to reboot your phone at least once in order to complete the update process
