Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left
- Open “Settings” for more options
- Access “Display”
- Optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
- For timeout options tap “Sleep” and select a lower value like “15 seconds”
Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open “Settings”
- Access “Device”
- Tap “Battery” > “Menu”
- Enable “Battery saver”
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can disable the phone’s connectivity features when they are not actively in use, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Hotspot, and GPS, to avoid unnecessary network scans and potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Tap the “Wi-Fi” “Location” and “Bluetooth” quick toggles to turn the features Off
- Return to “Settings”
- Go to “Location” and tap “mode”
- Enable “Battery saving” and return to “Settings”
- Tap “more” under “Wireless & Networks”
- Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot”
- Turn the features Off
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve energy until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open “Settings”
- Tap “more” under “Wireless & Networks”
- Tap “mobile networks”
- Access “Preferred network type” and enable “2G”
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: You can change your accounts’ settings to reduce sync and potentially improve battery life.
- Open “Settings”
- Access “Accounts”
- Select an account type and the desired account
- Change the available settings to reduce sync as desired
Minimize Third-Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third-party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect the device’s battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. You can disable or remove unused third-party apps to potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch “Settings”
- Access “Apps”
- Go to “All apps” and select the desired app
- To turn the app off, tap “Disable” / “Force Stop”
- To remove the app, tap “uninstall”
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can improve battery life and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Open “Settings”
- Go to “About phone” and tap “System updates”
- Check if new updates are available
- If applicable, follow the prompts to download and install available updates. Keep in mind that the update process will require at least one reboot
