I know you posted in Rogers section, but if you have Telus in your area, they have just the plan you are looking for. Look in the Telus section.

    Telus?

    That's funny. I wouldn't recommend
    telus .

For cell service in Canada GSM is a must.

    Fido.caor rogers.com

I also am going to change your title to something better.

Well your options depend on a few factors:

    1. Do you work? Where?

    2. Do you go to College or University? Did you ever?

Lets say you said yes to 1 and you work for one of the ten thousand companies in Canada that are elligible:

$20/month for the first year ($25/month after a year or have your evenings start at 8pm)
    200 Daytime
Unlimited Evenings and weekends after 6pm
    1,000 Rogers to Rogers Minutes

    Plus $10
    Call display
    Voice Mail
    125 Text Messages
    OR
    Call Display
    Voice Mail
    Name Display
    Who Called

    Plus $6.95 SAF & $0.50 911 fee.

    Total $37.45

Lets say you said yes to number 2:

$40 for the first year ($47 after one year or have your evenings start at 9pm)
    250 Daytime
Unlimited Evenings and Weekends after 6PM
    Unlimited incoming calls
    Unlimited Rogers to Rogers calls
    150 Canadian LD minutes
    125 Text Messages
    1000 R2R Text Messages

    Plus $10
    Call display
    Voice Mail
    125 Text Messages
    OR
    Call Display
    Voice Mail
    Name Display
    Who Called

    Plus $6.95 SAF & $0.50 911 fee.

    Total $57.45

There are just 2 of your options of course. You have many others.

If you have any Q's or are looking for a good Rogers Dealer in Richmond then feel free to PM me.

why is GSM a must in Canada. Please let me know as I am about a week from signing up on a plan and would hate to be stuck for 3 years with crappy service.

I was looking for a plan like the $25 unlimited incoming 200 anytime and free nights and weekends from 6pm offered by Telus.

    Any help is appreciated.

The Rogers version of that plan is:

$30 for the first year $37 thereafter
    150 daytime
    100 Canadian LD
    UL E&W after 6
    UL incoming

Telus and Rogers both have very comparable reception. Overall I find Rogers to be better but it if not a big diff.

I feel GSM is WAY better than CDMA simply because of the technological advantages it offers.

Re: WANTED: Good plan with a phone for under $75

not to beat this to death, but is the technology advancement worth the extra money for a lesser plan?

    ($60 ($5 x 12 months)first year and $168 ($7 x 24 months) second and third year) = $228

Not to mention $15 per month for the additional minutes. 200 offered by Telus - 150 offered by Rogers. (calculated as 50 minutes @$0.30 per minute.) =$360.

    $228
    $360
    ____
    $588

Well first of all that is only one plan, many Rogers plans are cheaper. But if just want to look at it from a cost point of view:

Don't be fooled by the cheaper plan, you have to look at the big picture.

Telus will nickel & dime you to death.

Rogers does not charge you to switch phones (something I do at least once a day), Telus charges $10 each time (so that would cost me at least $3,650 per year).

Rogers does not charge you to change plans, Telus does (I can't remember how much)

Rogers cancellation fee is min:$20, max:$200, Telus' is min:$100, max:$720.

Telus locks out their phones so you Must pay them for ringtones or games, Rogers does not (or when they do it is easy to bypass them).

    etc, etc, etc...

Every single quarter when all the carriers release their financials Telus customers pay more on average than any other carrier. Always.

Again, it is about a lot more thban just the plan cost.

Re: WANTED: Good plan with a phone for under $75

why would someone change phones daily or even monthly?

what about an mp3 phone such as the nokia 2125 (i think that's the telus phone) or the samsung A950. Do youhave to pay for the songs and ringtones there?

Yes you would still need to pay for ringtones.

I have my work phone (HTC Wizard) my play phone (W810) my messaging phone (6820) my beater phone (RAZR) and a few others... I switch phones up to 5 times a day. Only GSM allows this flexibility.

It is EPP (employee purchase plan) or plan # 1183.

It is Rogers' standard employee offer. Almost every company or school is elligible for it.
