Hello everyone! I live in Huntsville Ontario and wondering if Rogers service works better in the Muskoka area of Ontario. I live out in the country where the bell network seems to be very weak at my home. I’ve seen friends come visit with Roger’s phones and have no problem with signal. Not really sure if its my phone or the actual network itself. I currently have Bell and contract was done in July. Not exactly happy with Bell and thinking on making a switch to Telus or Rogers at this point. I know the Telus and Bell networks tend to work better then Rogers in Northern Ontario, but the Muskoka area seems questionable.
Any insight on this would be appreciated as I would be more then happy to crush my Bell Mobility phone.

if you have friends who live in the same area as you who subcribe to rogers wireless service with GSM phones, then you should definitely make the switch to rogers.

i don't have access to a coverage map, can you tell me where muskoka is? i don't feel like going to google to look for map of ontario... i also do not have access to rogers' coverage maps on my PC.

you can, however, go to rogers.com and view coverage maps there. that will tell you if there is adequate GSM coverage in your area.

but like i said earlier, if your friend is using a GSM rogers phone and lives in your area and is receiving good reception, then it's time for you to get with rogers.

It depends where you are. Seeing how others are faring with the alternative carrier, like you've done, is good. Check with other Bell users though to make sure you're not just having issues with your own phone.

Make sure any Rogers phone you might get is at least dual band (GSM 850 and 1900) for best results. You can get tri- and quad-band phones if you think you might ever go overseas, but make sure if you get a dual- or tri-band that you have both GSM 850 and 1900.

In some provinces (like mine) the CDMA carrier has much better coverage than Rogers does, so it does pay to check. (My plan rocks so I don't mind.)

I second that. The Rogers signal advantage can only be had if you own a phone that is 850 capable. 1900 is usable but it really suffers for signal penetration. Some ppl like those fancy international phones which might not have 850 band. This would not be recommended - esp away from urban networks.
