    Hi all,

My contract will end by the 15th. I called a week prior to the end date to cancel my service. However, I was told that I had to give 30 days notice. So now I will have to pay for one more month even if I'm not using the phone. What's the cheapest way out of this? Will they charge me a further cancellation fee?

I was thinking of trying to switch to pay as you go or a cheaper plan - I really don't want to end up locked in more.

    any help is appreciated,
    thanks

Re: End of contract- want out

I'm with Rogers in canada, and my contract is almost expired. The TOS say "unless permitted by applicable law: you may terminate all or any part of your services upon no less than 30 days advance notice by contacting Rogers . . . applicable charges continue to apply until the end of the notice period"

Unfortunately my mother got this contract and she can't read english. I assumed if you did nothing the plan would terminate at the end of the contract.

Would porting my number to another carrier will avoid these charges?
Can I get a cheaper plan or go on pay as you go?
Can I get out of this entirely?

    Thanks again

As per the Rogers' TOS, you must give 30 days notice to cancel. There is no way to get around this.

Most (if not all) contracts require 30 days to cancel even if it's a month-to-month contract.

That sucks. Its not like they will find someone in 30 days to take over your payment and your number, right?

The cost of doing business unfortunately.

Just about any contract you sign will have the requirement of giving 30 days notice to cancel, and that's why it's imperative to read an understand everything you put your name to.
