Switching phones

Hi everyone, I'm not currently allowed a hardware upgrade from Rogers. My wife is. I want to the the new Blackberry Torch and currently have the Bold 9700. Is it possible for her to upgrade to the Torch and then we switch phones? What do we need to do?

She is going to take my 9700.

Call up Rogers and ask them what's possible...

Does she have a data plan right now ?

If she doesn't and upgrades to the Torch she might be obligated to get a data plan because of the upgrade to a smart phone.

I'm with the prepaid department so I'm not to familiar with upgrades for contracts but it does give you things to think about and ask a REP when you all up Rogers.

This is absolutely possible and I do it all the time. Just call rogers and do the upgrade like normal under your wifes phone. When the phone is delivered, you will need to take the SIM card out of your BlackBerry and move it into the new BlackBerry. Do not touch the SIM card in her phone.

You are using her CTN (Cellular Telephone Number) for upgrade eligilibity purposes only. The phone will technically be assigned to her CTN but really the CTN is assigned to the SIM card not the phone, so as long as you just move your own SIM into the new Torch it will all work just fine. If you call Rogers and tell them this is what you want to do, they will be totally cool with it and explain it. This is totally normal and people do it all the time.
