I bought a Samsung Galaxy S 4G (at least that's what it says on the back cover. When I do a search for the model #SPH-D700 it bring up Samsung Epic) from a friend & need to get service for it. It was formerly Sprint but I would like to get a prepaid plan? Can anyone tell me how to do this & recommend a service provider?

The Epic was just another name for the Galaxy S 4g.
Since this is a Sprint phone and cannot be unlocked you may only be able to use it on Sprint's new pre-paid service, Sprint as you go

Actually, if you want to be adventurous you could Flash it to use on a different service: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1.../edit?hl=en_US
If you don't understand this I do not recommend trying it since you can easily brick the phone.
