Using Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Press the "Menu" button while viewing a home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" and tap the "My device" tab
  3. Press the "ON / OFF" switch associated with "Power saving mode" and set it to "ON"
  4. Tap "Power saving mode"
  5. To customize how Battery saving mode works, check or uncheck the boxes associated with "CPU power saving", "Screen power saving" and "Turn off haptic feedback"
  6. Optionally, tap "Learn about Power saving mode" to see more tips

Lowering the Screen Brightness and Adjusting the Timeout Duration:

  1. Press the "Menu" button while on a home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Tap the "My device" tab
  4. Touch "Display" > "Brightness"
  5. Clear the "Automatic brightness" check box if necessary
  6. Drag the brightness slider to the left, and leave it to a lower level
  7. Tap "OK"
  8. Press "Screen timeout" and select a lower settings (such as "15 seconds")


Disabling Your Live Wallpaper:

  1. From the home screen, press "Menu"
  2. Tap "Set wallpaper" > "Home screen"
  3. Select either "Wallpaper" or "Gallery"
  4. For default wallpapers, select the desired one and tap "Set wallpaper". For images located in your gallery, select to set it as a wallpaper, resize / drag / crop it and tap "Done"

Disabling Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi Hotspot:

  1. While on the home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings" and go to the "Connections" tab
  3. Tap "More networks" > "Tethering & Mobile Hotspot"
  4. Press the "Mobile Hotspot" switch and set it to "OFF"
  5. Return to the home screen and drag the "Status" bar down
  6. Tap the icons associated with "Wi-Fi", "Bluetooth" and "GPS" in order to turn these features off

Changing the Sync Settings:

  1. Press "Menu" from the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" and tap the "Accounts" tab
  3. Under "My accounts", select the desired account type, such as "Google"
  4. Adjust the available sync settings for the selected account type. Generally speaking, you need to clear the check boxes to turn off sync, or tap each feature to select a lower time interval for syncing
  5. To further adjust additional sync settings, tap your "user name" or "email address" located at the top of the screen
  6. Clear the check box for each applicable category to turn sync off
  7. Tap each category to set a different sync setting

Disabling Background Data:

  1. From the home screen, press "Menu"
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Press the "Connections" tab and tap "Data usage"
  4. Press "Menu" and mark the "Restrict background data" check box

Minimizing the use of 3rd Party Apps:

  1. While viewing the home screen, press "Menu"
  2. Tap "Settings" > "More" > "Application manager"
  3. Swipe to the "Downloaded" screen
  4. Select the desired app and tap "Disable" or "Uninstall"
  5. Press "OK" to confirm

Switching from 4G to 2G Connectivity:

  1. Press "Menu" while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" and go to the "Connections" tab
  3. Tap "More networks" > "Mobile networks" > "Network mode"
  4. Select "GSM only" to restrict your phone to 2G connectivity only
  5. To return to 4G connectivity, tap "LTE / GSM / WCDMA (auto connect)" or "GSM / WCMA (auto connect)"

Checking for Software Updates and Keeping Your Phone Up to Date:

NOTE: this tip works only if Samsung has released a new software update that addresses potential issues with your phone's battery life. Following these steps without any update being available will not give any results.

  1. Press "Menu" from the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" > "More"
  3. Tap "About device" and select "Software update"
  4. If there's a new software update available, follow any on-screen instructions to download and apply it
