Backing Up Applications:
- Press the "Menu" button while viewing a home screen
- Tap "Settings"
- Go to the "Accounts" tab and tap "Backup and reset". NOTE: to back up applications, you must be signed in with a Google account. If you need to do this, tap "Backup account" > "Add account" and follow the on-screen instructions
- If necessary, mark the check boxes next to "Backup my data" and "Backup account"
Contact Back Up
Backing up Contacts to a Samsung or Google Account:
- Tap the "Contacts" icon located on the home screen
- Press the "Menu" button and tap "Merge contacts"
- Select either "Merge with Google" or "Merge with Samsung"
- If required, sign in with your Google or Samsung Account
Backing up Contacts on the SD Card:
- Launch the "Contacts" application
- Press "Menu" and tap "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
- Press "Menu" again and select "Import / Export"
- Tap "Export to SD card". NOTE: a pop-up notification will be displayed, revealing the name of the file you are about to create. Record the name if necessary
- Tap "OK"
Pictures and Media File Back Up
Backing Up Media Files on the SD Card:
- Tap "Apps" from the home screen
- Select "My files"
- Tap "All files" > "Device storage". NOTE: to back up all the files, press "Menu" > "Select all" and skip directly to step 6
- Navigate to the location where the desired media files are stored. Camera pictures are stored in "DCIM", notifications in the "Notifications" folder, and so on
- Mark the check boxes next to the desired files and folders
- Tap the "Menu" icon found at the top-right corner of the screen
- Tap "Copy". To avoid creating duplicates, you can tap "Move" instead
- Select "SD memory card" and if necessary, navigate to the desired target folder
- Once there, tap "Paste here" / "Move here"
Backing up Media Files on a Windows Computer:
- Use the USB cable to connect your SGS II TV to your computer
- On the smartphone, drag the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device"
- Mark the "Media device" option
- On your PC, an AutoPlay window should pop-up. Click "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer"
- Locate the files that you want to back up and copy them
- Navigate to the desired back up location on your computer, and paste the previously copied files
- Once the transfer is complete, safely disconnect your smartphone
Backing up Media Files on a Mac Computer:
NOTE: skip the first two steps if you already have Kies installed on your Mac.
- On your Mac, open the Internet browser and visit SAMSUNG KIES
- On the website, click "Download for Mac OS" and follow the on-screen instructions to install Kies
- Connect your smartphone to your computer via USB
- On the smartphone, open the notification area and tap "Connected as a media device" > "Media device"
- Launch Kies on your computer and click the "Back up / restore" tab
- Click the "Backup" tab
- Next up, click the check boxes associated with "Music", "Photo" or any other types of files that you want to back up. Optionally, you can click "Select all items"
- Lastly, click "Backup". Once the process finishes, you can disconnect your smartphone
