Clearing the Cache Partition:
NOTE: clearing the cache partition can help you fix various issues with your device, assuming that the phone is not working correctly, it crashes etc. Wiping the cache partition is a good way to try and fix these problems before applying a master reset. The main reason for this is because, unlike a factory reset, clearing the cache will not remove any personal data stored on your phone's internal storage. To wipe the cache:
- Power off your smartphone
- Press and hold "Volume Up", "Home" and "Power" at the same time
- After your phone vibrates, release the "Power" button but keep holding the other two
- At the "Android System Recovery" screen, release all hardware keys
- Press "Volume Down" until you highlight "wipe cache partition"
- Press "Power" to select the option and wipe the phone's cache
- Once the process is complete, "reboot system now" will be highlighted
- Press "Power" to reboot your device in normal mode
NOTE: if wiping the cache has not fixed the issues, you may want to apply a full factory reset. To learn how, visit this link for a full guide on master resetting the SGS III mini VE.
Safe Mode
Assuming that you have downloaded and installed a problematic application that causes issues with your device and prevents you from uninstalling it, then you can solve this issue by rebooting your smartphone in safe mode. In this mode, all third party applications are disabled, and you should be able to uninstall the malicious app without any difficulties.
To Reboot in Safe Mode:
- With the smartphone turned off, press and hold the "Power" button
- When the "Samsung" splash screen appears, release the "Power" key and immediately press and hold "Volume Down" instead
- Keep holding the volume key until your smartphone finishes restarting
- A "Safe mode" sticker should be present in the bottom-left corner of the screen
Uninstalling a Third Party App and Exiting Safe Mode:
- From the home screen, press "Menu"
- Tap "Settings" and access the "More" tab
- Tap "Application manager" and swipe to the "Downloaded" screen
- Select the desired app and tap "Uninstall" > "OK"
- To exit safe mode, press and hold "Power" and tap "Restart"
- Tap "OK" to confirm
