How-to: Samsung Galaxy SIII Slim: Importing / Exporting, Adding and Editing Contacts and Groups

Managing Contacts

Adding New Contacts:

1. While viewing the home screen, tap the "Contacts" icon
2. Go to the "Contacts" tab and press the "+" button
3. Select to save the contact on: "Device", "SIM" or "Google"
4. Enter the contact's first name in the "First name" field
5. Type in the contact's phone number in the right field
6. Enter any type of information that you desire
7. When ready, tap "Save"

Assigning a Contact to Speed Dial:

1. From the home screen, tap the "Phone" icon
2. Tap the "Keypad" tab if required
3. Press the "Menu" button and tap "Speed dial settings"
4. Select the dial pad number that you wish to use for speed dialing
5. Choose the contact that you want to be associated with the previously set dial pad number

Deleting Contacts:

1. From the home screen, tap the "Contacts" icon
2. Go to the "Contacts" tab. NOTE: if you wish to display contacts that are part from a specific list, tap "Menu" > "contacts to display" and select the desired contact type
3. Press the "Menu" key
4. Tap "Delete" and mark the check boxes next to the contacts that you wish to remove. Alternatively, you can tap "Select all"
5. Press "Delete" > "OK"

Contact Import / Export

Importing Contacts from the SD Card:

1. Open the "Contacts" app and access the "Contacts" tab
2. Touch the "Menu" key
3. Select "Import / Export" > "Import from SD card"
4. Choose a location where you want to import the contacts and press "OK"
5. Tap to "Import vCard file" / "Import multiple vCard files" or "Import all vCard files"
6. Press "OK"
7. Depending on your initial selection, you may need to choose a vCard file and press "OK"

Exporting Contacts to the SD Card:

1. From the "Contacts" application, access the "Contacts" tab
2. Press "Menu" and select "Import / Export" > "Export to SD card"
3. Tap "OK" to confirm"

Importing Contacts from the SIM Card:

1. From the home screen, tap "Contacts"
2. Go to the "Contacts" tab
3. Press "Menu" > "Import / Export" > "Import from SIM card"
4. Choose the location where you want to import the contacts and press "OK"
5. Mark the check boxes next to the contacts that you want to import. Alternatively, tap "Select all"
6. Press "Done"

Exporting Contacts to the SIM Card:

1. From the "Contacts" app's main screen, access the "Contacts" tab
2. Press "Menu" and select "Import / Export"
3. Tap "Export to SIM card"
4. Mark the contacts that you want to export or tap "Select all"
5. Tap "Done" > "OK"

Managing Caller Groups

Creating a New Caller Group:

1. Open the "Contacts" application
2. Tap the "Groups" tab
3. Press "Menu" and tap "Create"
4. Type in the desired name for the group
5. To add members, tap "Add member" and mark the check box(es) next to the desired contacts
6. Tap "Done" > "Save"

Adding Contacts to a Caller Group:

NOTE: in order to add contacts to a caller group, the contacts need to be saved on the phone's internal memory, or on your Google account

1. Launch the "Contacts" app and tap the "Contacts" tab
2. Choose the desired group
3. Press the "+" button
4. Tap "Menu" > "Edit" > "Add member"
5. Mark the contacts that you wish to add to the group, or tap "Select all"
6. Press "Done" when ready
