Enabling Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Press the "Menu" key while viewing a home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "System" and tap "Power saving"
  4. Tap the "Power saving mode" switch and set it to "ON"
  5. To customize how the mode works, tap "Power saving mode"
  6. Mark or clear the check boxes associated with "CPU power saving", "Screen power saving" etc.

Enabling Ultra Power Saving Mode:

  1. Tap the "Apps" icon located on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Scroll to "System" and tap "Power saving"
  4. Tap "Ultra Power saving mode" and set the switch to "ON"
  5. Set the desired Ultra power saving mode associated with "Phone", "Messages" and "Internet" as you desire
  6. To add additional options, tap the "+" sign

Decreasing the Screen Brightness and Lowering the Timeout Duration:

A smartphone's display is one of the main components that require a lot of battery in order to work at high levels of brightness. As such, it's highly recommended to decrease the screen brightness and the timeout duration. To do so:

  1. From the home screen, tap the "Apps" icon
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Tap "Display" under "Quick settings"
  4. Tap "Brightness"
  5. Clear the check box next to "Automatic brightness" and drag the slider to the left
  6. Tap "OK" and select "Screen timeout"
  7. Choose a lower setting, such as 15 seconds

Disabling Wi-Fi, HotSpot, GPS and Bluetooth:

NOTE: it's highly recommended that you disable all connectivity options when not in use. This will allow you to increase battery life considerably.

  1. While viewing a home screen, tap the "Apps" icon
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Scroll to "Network Connections"
  4. Tap "Tethering & Mobile Hotspot"
  5. Tap the switch associated with "Mobile Hotspot" and set it to "Off"
  6. Drag the "Status" bar down
  7. Tap the icon associated with "Wi-Fi", "Location", "Bluetooth"

Changing the Application Sync Settings:

  1. Tap the "Apps" icon from the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Under "User and Backup", tap "Accounts"
  4. Access the "Accounts" tab
  5. Select the desired account type, such as "Google"
  6. Tap to adjust the sync settings for the account type
  7. To adjust additional sync settings, tap your "user name" or "email address" at the top of the screen

Disabling Background Data:

  1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Scroll to "Network Connections" and tap "Data usage"
  4. Press the "Menu" button
  5. Mark the "Restrict background data" check box

Minimizing the Use of Third Party Apps:

NOTE: although you might not use all of the applications, some apps can still affect the phone's battery life, if they run services in the background. It's highly recommended that you disable or uninstall apps that you don't use. To do so:

  1. While on the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Under "Applications", tap "Application manager"
  4. Access the "Downloaded" tab
  5. To disable an app, tap "Disable"
  6. To remove an app", tap "Uninstall"

Switching from 4G / LTE to 2G Connectivity:

  1. Tap the "Apps" icon while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Under "Network Connections", tap "More networks"
  4. Tap "Mobile networks" > "Network mode"
  5. To restrict to 2G connectivity, tap "GSM only"
  6. To switch back to 4G / LTE, tap "LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect)" or "WCDMA/GSM (auto connect)"

Updating to the Most Recent Software Version:

NOTE: the following steps can have a positive effect on your phone's battery life, assuming that Samsung has released a new software update which improves the phone's battery life. Otherwise, following these steps will have no effect on your device's battery performance

  1. Tap the "Apps" icon while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Under "System", tap "About device"
  4. Tap "Software update"
  5. If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it
