Inserting the SD Card:
- Turn off your smartphone
- Remove the back cover
- If necessary, insert a SIM card
- Insert the SD card in its slot, gold contacts facing downwards
- Gently push the card into its slot
- Refit the back cover and turn on your device
Viewing the Amount of SD Card Space:
- While on the home screen, tap "Apps"
- Go to "Settings"
- Under "System", tap "Storage"
- Swipe to "SD card" and you can view the "Available space" value
Formatting the SD Card:
WARNING! Formatting the SD card will result in the deletion of all data stored on it! Before proceeding, create backups if necessary.
- Tap "Apps" on the home screen
- Go to "Settings"
- Swipe to "System" and tap "Storage"
- Tap "Format SD card" under "SD Card"
- Tap "Format SD card" a second time to confirm
- Press "Delete all"
Opening or Deleting SD Card Files
Using the Smartphone:
- From the home screen, tap "Apps"
- Launch "My files"
- Swipe to "Local storage" and tap "SD card"
- To open a file or folder, tap it
- To delete files, first tap "SD memory card" and touch the "Menu" icon
- Next, tap "Select" and mark the check boxes associated with the content type you wish to remove
- Lastly, tap "Done" > "OK"
Using a Windows PC:
- Establish a connection between the SGS5 Active and computer via USB
- Drag the "Status" bar down
- Tap "USB connected" > "Connect USB storage"
- In the AutoPlay window on the computer, click to "Open folder to view files"
- Open the "Card" drive, representing the SD storage
- Open or delete the desired files
- When done, tap "Disconnect storage from PC"
Using a Mac Computer:
NOTE: You should skip the first 3 steps assuming that you already have Samsung Kies on your Mac
- Launch the Internet browser on your Mac computer
- Visit Kies and click "Download for Mac OS"
- Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install Kies on your Mac
- Connect the S5 Active to your Mac via USB
- On the smartphone, swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device"
- Mark the "Media device" check box
- Launch Kies and you should find your S5 Active under "Connected devices"
- From Kies, click the "Folder" icon next to "External memory"
- To open a file, double-click it
- To remove a file or a folder, mark the check box associate with it and click the "Trash can" icon. Confirm by clocking "OK"
- Once you're done, click the S5 Active's drive located on the Mac's desktop, and drag it on top of the "Eject / Trash bin" icon
- Safely disconnect your smartphone from the Mac
Transferring Files From / To the SD Card
Transfer Files from the SD to the Internal Memory:
- While viewing the home screen, tap "Apps"
- Launch "My Files"
- Scroll to "Local storage" and tap "SD card"
- Tap "SD memory card" and locate the desired files and folders
- Mark the check boxes associated with the files you wish to transfer
- Tap "Menu" and select "Copy" or "Move" (NOTE: selecting "Copy" will create duplicate files)
- Tap "Device storage" and go to the location where you wish to transfer the files
- Tap "Paste here" or "Move here"
Transferring Files from the Internal Memory to the SD Card:
- Launch the "My Files" app
- Scroll to "Local storage" and select "Device storage"
- Locate the files you wish to transfer to the SD card
- Mark the check boxes associated with the desired files and / or folders
- When ready, tap the "Menu" icon located in the upper-right corner
- Tap "Move" or "Copy"
- Select "SD memory card" and navigate to where the files need to be transferred
- Tap "Paste here" or "Move here"
Setting the Default Memory Location for Apps
NOTE: By default, most of your pre-loaded applications will use the phone's internal memory for storing data. This option can be changed for the majority of pre-installed applications, assuming that you wish to use the SD card for storing data instead.
Changing the Camera App's Settings:
- From the home screen, tap "Camera"
- From the viewfinder, tap the "Settings" icon
- Swipe to and tap "Storage"
- Select "Memory card"
Change the Voice Recorder App's Storage Settings:
- Tap "Apps" from the home screen
- Launch "Voice recorder"
- Tap "Settings" and go to "Storage"
- Select "Memory Card"
Change the Internet App's Storage Settings:
- While on a home screen, tap "Apps"
- Launch "Internet" and press "Menu"
- Tap "Settings"
- Under "Advanced", tap "Content settings"
- Touch "Default storage" and select "SD Card"
Change the Storage Location for DLNA (Nearby Devices):
- From the home screen, tap "Apps"
- Launch "Settings"
- Swipe to "Connect and Share" and tap "Nearby devices"
- Tap the "Nearby devices" switch and set it to "ON"
- Tap "Download to" and select "SD Card"
