Clearing an Application's Cache / Data:

NOTE: Assuming that one of your apps isn't working as it should; it freezes, crashes or has odd behavior, then you might be able to fix this by clearing the app's cache or data.

WARNING! When clearing an app's data you will lose all personal data stored within the application. This includes high scores, profiles, saved games, credit card and login information etc. However, clearing the app's cache will not affect personal data, so it's highly recommended that you try this method first.

  1. Press "Menu" while on the home screen
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. From the "More" tab, tap "Application manager"
  4. Scroll to the "Downloaded" or "All" screen
  5. Select the problematic app and tap "Clear cache"
  6. If this hasn't solved the issue, then you can tap "Clear data" > "OK" (see the warning message above)

Clearing the Phone's Cache Partition:

NOTE: Assuming that your smartphone isn't working as intended, it freezes, crashes or has odd behavior, then you've probably already considered master resetting it. However, before resetting your smartphone you might want to try and fix these problems by clearing the phone's cache partition. Unlike a master reset, clearing the cache will not affect personal data stored on the internal storage.

  1. Turn off your smartphone
  2. Press and hold "Volume Up", "Home" and "Power" simultaneously
  3. After the phone vibrates once, release the "Power" key but continue pressing the volume and home buttons
  4. At the "Android System Recovery" screen, release all hardware buttons
  5. From the recovery screen, navigate to and highlight "wipe cache partition", using "Volume down"
  6. Press "Power" to select the highlighted option
  7. Once the process is done, "Reboot system now" will be highlighted
  8. Press "Power" once again to select the highlighted option, and wait for your smartphone to reboot in normal mode

NOTE: If clearing the phone's cache partition hasn't helped, then you might want to factory reset your smartphone. To learn how you can do this, visit this thread for a full guide

Safe Mode:

  2. Press and hold the "Power" button
  3. When the "Samsung" splash screen appears, release the "Power" button and press and hold "Volume down" instead
  4. If the smartphone rebooted in safe mode correctly, a "Safe Mode" message will be present in the lower-left area of the home screen
  5. Release all hardware buttons after the phone reboots in safe mode
  6. From the home screen, press "Menu" and tap "Settings"
  7. Under "More, go to "Application manager"
  8. Swipe to the "Downloaded" screen
