Backing Up Application Data:
- Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
- Go to "Settings" and swipe to "User and Backup"
- Tap "Backup and reset"
- You need to be logged in with a Google account in order to back up your apps. If necessary, tap "Backup account" > "Add account" and follow the on-screen steps
- Mark the "Backup account" and "Backup my data" check boxes, if necessary
Backing Up Contacts
Using a Samsung or Google Account:
- Launch the "Contacts" application
- Tap "Settings" and then tap "Merge accounts"
- Select to back up the contacts on a "Google" or "Samsung" account
- Tap "OK" to merge the contacts with the selected account
Backing Up Contacts on the SD Card:
- Make sure the SD card is installed on your smartphone
- Tap "Apps" while viewing one of the home screens
- Tap "Settings" and swipe to "Applications"
- Tap "Contacts"
- Press "Menu" and then tap "Import / Export"
- Select "Export to SD Card"
- Press "OK" and make sure you remember the backup file's name for future use
Backing Up Media Files
Using Your Smartphone:
- Ensure the SD card is properly installed on your smartphone
- Tap "Apps" from the home screen
- Launch "My Files"
- Swipe to "Local Storage" and tap "Device storage"
- Tap the "Menu" icon located in the top-right area of the screen
- Tap "Select" and locate the media files you want to create backups of. NOTE: pictures captured with the "Camera" app should be found in the "DCIM" folder, and other media files are generally found in "Ringtones", "Downloads" etc.
- Mark the check boxes associated with the items you want to back up
- Press "Menu" and tap "Copy" > "SD card"
- Navigate to the desired backup folder and tap "Paste here"
Using a Windows Computer:
- Establish a USB connection between the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime and your computer
- While viewing the home screen, swipe the "Status" bar down
- Tap "Connected as a media device" and mark the "Media device (MTP)" check box
- From the AutoPlay window on your computer, click "Open device to view files"
- Locate the media files you wish to back up. NOTE: The "Card" icon represents the SD Card, whereas the "Phone" icon represents the phone's internal memory
- Copy the files you want to back up, and then transfer (paste) them in the desired backup location on your computer's HDD
- After the transfer is done, safely disconnect the Galaxy Grand Prime from your computer
Using a Mac:
NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps if Samsung Kies is already installed on your Mac
- Launch the Internet browser on your Mac computer
- Visit Kies and click "Download for Mac OS"
- Follow the on-screen steps to install Kies on the Mac
- Once the installation is complete, connect the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime to your computer via USB
- Swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device"
- Mark the check box next to "Media device (MTP)"
- Launch Kies on the Mac and click the "Back up / Restore" tab
- Go to the "Backup" tab and mark the check boxes next to "Photos", "Music", etc. Alternatively, click "Select all items"
- Click "Backup" and wait for the process to complete
- Safely eject and disconnect your Galaxy Grand Prime from the Mac
