Backing Up Application Data:

  1. Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
  2. Go to "Settings" and swipe to "User and Backup"
  3. Tap "Backup and reset"
  4. You need to be logged in with a Google account in order to back up your apps. If necessary, tap "Backup account" > "Add account" and follow the on-screen steps
  5. Mark the "Backup account" and "Backup my data" check boxes, if necessary

Backing Up Contacts

Using a Samsung or Google Account:

  1. Launch the "Contacts" application
  2. Tap "Settings" and then tap "Merge accounts"
  3. Select to back up the contacts on a "Google" or "Samsung" account
  4. Tap "OK" to merge the contacts with the selected account

Backing Up Contacts on the SD Card:

  1. Make sure the SD card is installed on your smartphone
  2. Tap "Apps" while viewing one of the home screens
  3. Tap "Settings" and swipe to "Applications"
  4. Tap "Contacts"
  5. Press "Menu" and then tap "Import / Export"
  6. Select "Export to SD Card"
  7. Press "OK" and make sure you remember the backup file's name for future use

Backing Up Media Files

Using Your Smartphone:

  1. Ensure the SD card is properly installed on your smartphone
  2. Tap "Apps" from the home screen
  3. Launch "My Files"
  4. Swipe to "Local Storage" and tap "Device storage"
  5. Tap the "Menu" icon located in the top-right area of the screen
  6. Tap "Select" and locate the media files you want to create backups of. NOTE: pictures captured with the "Camera" app should be found in the "DCIM" folder, and other media files are generally found in "Ringtones", "Downloads" etc.
  7. Mark the check boxes associated with the items you want to back up
  8. Press "Menu" and tap "Copy" > "SD card"
  9. Navigate to the desired backup folder and tap "Paste here"

Using a Windows Computer:

  1. Establish a USB connection between the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime and your computer
  2. While viewing the home screen, swipe the "Status" bar down
  3. Tap "Connected as a media device" and mark the "Media device (MTP)" check box
  4. From the AutoPlay window on your computer, click "Open device to view files"
  5. Locate the media files you wish to back up. NOTE: The "Card" icon represents the SD Card, whereas the "Phone" icon represents the phone's internal memory
  6. Copy the files you want to back up, and then transfer (paste) them in the desired backup location on your computer's HDD
  7. After the transfer is done, safely disconnect the Galaxy Grand Prime from your computer

Using a Mac:

NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps if Samsung Kies is already installed on your Mac

  1. Launch the Internet browser on your Mac computer
  2. Visit Kies and click "Download for Mac OS"
  3. Follow the on-screen steps to install Kies on the Mac
  4. Once the installation is complete, connect the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime to your computer via USB
  5. Swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device"
  6. Mark the check box next to "Media device (MTP)"
  7. Launch Kies on the Mac and click the "Back up / Restore" tab
  8. Go to the "Backup" tab and mark the check boxes next to "Photos", "Music", etc. Alternatively, click "Select all items"
  9. Click "Backup" and wait for the process to complete
  10. Safely eject and disconnect your Galaxy Grand Prime from the Mac
