Restoring Applications:
- Sign in with the Google or Samsung account used for the initial backup
- Access the phone's "Settings" menu
- Swipe to "User and Backup" and then tap "Accounts"
- Tap "Samsung" or "Google", depending on the type of account you've used initially
- Tap the "email address" at the top of the screen
- Tap "Sync all"
- Press the "Back" key twice to return to the "User and Backup" screen
- Tap "Backup and reset"
- Under "Backup and Restore", mark / clear the check boxes associated with "Back up my data" and "Automatic restore"
Restoring Contacts
From the SD Card:
- Make sure the SD card containing the contact backup is installed on your phone
- Tap "Apps" from the home screen
- Go to "Settings" and swipe to "Applications"
- Tap "Contacts" > "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
- Tap "Import / Export" > "Import from SD card"
- Follow any additional steps to import the backup file's contents to your phonebook
From a Samsung or Google Account:
- Sign in with your Google or Samsung account
- Access the "Settings" menu
- Swipe to "User and Backup" and tap "Accounts"
- Select "Samsung" or "Google", depending on the type of account you have used for the initial backup
- Tap the "email address" at the top of the screen
- If necessary, mark the "Sync Contacts" check box
- Tap "Sync now"
Restoring Media Files
From the SD Card:
- From the home screen, tap "Apps"
- Launch "My Files" and tap "All files"
- Tap "SD card" and press "Menu"
- Tap "Select" and mark the check boxes next to the media files you wish to restore
- Tap "Menu" and select "Move"
- Select "Device storage" > "Move here"
- If you wish to move the items in a different location, tap the folder name or "Create folder"
From a Windows PC:
- Connect the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 to your computer via USB
- Drag the "Status" bar down and mark the "Media device (MTP)" check box
- Click "Open device to view files" in the "AutoPlay" window
- Access the phone's SD card or internal storage directory
- Launch a second Windows Explorer window and navigate to the backed up files
- Transfer the files to your phone to restore them
- After the transfer is done, eject the phone's storage via the "Mass Storage Device" icon located in the system tray, and safely disconnect your smartphone
From a Mac Computer:
- Establish a USB connection between the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 and your Mac
- Swipe the "Status" bar down
- Tap "Media device"
- Open Kies on your Mac and click the "Back up / restore" tab
- Access the "Restore" tab if necessary
- Mark the check boxes next to "Music", "Photo" and other types of media files you wish to restore
- Click "Restore" and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process
- After the transfer is done, eject the phone's virtual drive from the desktop and safely disconnect the smartphone from the Mac
