Backing Up Applications:

  1. While viewing the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Access "Settings" and swipe to "User and Backup"
  3. Tap "Backup and reset"
  4. Make sure you have signed in with your Google account. If necessary, tap "Backup account" > "Add account"
  5. If necessary, mark the check boxes next to "Backup my data" and "Backup account"

Contact Backup

Using a Samsung or Google Account:

  1. Open the "Contacts" app
  2. Tap "Settings" > "Merge accounts"
  3. Select "Google" or "Samsung account"
  4. Tap "OK" to confirm

Back Up Contacts on the SD Card:

  1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Access "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "Applications" and tap "Contacts"
  4. Tap "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
  5. Tap "Import / Export" > "Export to SD card"
  6. Press "OK" and make sure you remember the backup file's name for easy restoration later on

Media File Back Up

Back Up Media Files on the SD Card:

  1. Open the apps drawer and launch "My Files"
  2. Under "Local Storage", tap "Device storage"
  3. Press the "Menu" icon and tap "Select"
  4. Locate the files you want to back up, and mark the check boxes associated with them
  5. Press "Menu" and tap "Copy"
  6. Tap "SD card", navigate to the desired backup location and tap "Paste here"

Using a Windows PC:

  1. Connect the Samsung Galaxy Grand Max to your computer via USB
  2. Swipe the "Status" bar down and mark the check box next to "Media device (MTP)"
  3. In the AutoPlay window that should pop-up on your computer, click "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer"
  4. Open the "Card" directory associated with the SD card
  5. Locate the files you want to back up, and copy them
  6. Navigate to the desired backup location on your computer and paste the files
  7. After the transfer is complete, eject the phone's storage by clicking the "mass storage device" icon in the system tray
  8. Safely disconnect your smartphone

Back Up Media Files on a Mac:

NOTE: If you have Samsung Kies on your Mac already, skip the first 3 steps:

  1. Launch the Internet browser on your Mac
  2. Visit Kies and click "Download for Mac OS"
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install Kies on your Mac
  4. Establish a USB connection between your Galaxy Grand Max and Mac
  5. Swipe the "notification" bar down on the smartphone and mark the "Media Device (MTP)" check box if necessary
  6. On the Mac, launch Kies
  7. Click the "Back up / Restore" tab and access the "Backup" tab
  8. Mark the check boxes associated with "Photos", "Music" and other types of media files you want to back up
  9. Click "Backup" and wait for the process to finish
  10. Once done, eject the phone's storage from the Mac's desktop screen and safely disconnect your smartphone
