Back Up Apps:
- Tap “Apps” on the home screen
- Go to “Settings”
- From the “Accounts” tab, tap “Backup and reset”
- You need to be logged in to a Google account to proceed. If necessary, tap “Backup account” > “Add account”
- If necessary, tap to enable “Backup my data” and “Backup account”
Back Up Contacts on a Samsung or Google Account:
- Tap “Contacts” on the home screen
- Tap “Menu” > “Merge accounts”
- Select to “Merge with Google” or “Merge with Samsung”
- If necessary, sign in to your Samsung or Google account
Back Up Contacts on the SD Card:
- Make sure the SD card is inserted
- Launch “Contacts”
- Tap “Menu” > “Contacts to display”
- Tap “All contacts”
- Press “Menu” > “Import / Export”
- Tap “Export to SD card” > “OK” (Make sure you recall the file’s name for future use)
Back Up Media Files
Using the SD card:
- Tap “Apps” on the home screen
- Launch “My Files”
- Tap “All files” > “Device storage”. NOTE: to back up all of your files, press “Menu” > “Select all”, and skip to step 6
- Locate the folders containing the desired media files you want to back up. Usual folders of interest are “DCIM”, “Notifications”, “Downloads”, "Music” etc.
- Mark the check box associated with the items you want to back up
- Tap the “Menu” icon in the upper-right corner
- Tap “Copy”, or “Move” to avoid creating duplicates
- Tap “SD memory card” and navigate to the desired backup folder
- Tap “Paste here” (or “Move here” if necessary)
Using a Windows Computer:
- Connect the S4 mini Plus to your computer via USB
- Swipe the “Status” bar down, tap “Connected as a media device” and enable “Media device (MTP)”
- On the computer in the AutoPlay window, click to “Open device to view files using Windows Explorer”
- Locate the desired media files, in the “Card” and “Phone” directories
- Copy the files and transfer them in the desired backup location on the computer
- Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage from the system tray and safely disconnect it from the PC
Using a Mac Computer:
NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps if Kies is already installed on your Mac
- Open the Internet browser and visit Kies
- Click “Download for Mac OS”
- Follow the on-screen steps to install Kies on the Mac
- Connect the Galaxy S4 mini Plus to the computer via USB
- If necessary, swipe the “Status” bar down and enable “Media sync (MTP)”
- Launch Kies on the computer
- In Kies, click the “Back up / restore” tab
- Access the “Backup” tab and mark the check box(es) next to “Music”, “Photo” and other media files you want to back up
- To proceed, click “Backup” and wait for the process to complete. Then, eject the phone storage and safely disconnect it from the Mac
