Via Google Account:

NOTE: You can use your Google account to sync your SGSIII contacts. Then, you can sync the account data, including contacts, with your Galaxy J5. To do so:

  1. Sign in with your Google account on the Galaxy SIII
  2. Go to “Settings
  3. Tap “My Accounts
  4. Select “Google” and tap your “user name” or “email address” at the top
  5. Enable “Sync Contacts” and tap “Sync now
  6. Switch to the Galaxy J5 and register the same Google account
  7. Go to “Settings
  8. Tap “User and backup” > “Accounts
  9. Tap “Menu” > “Sync all

Using “Contacts”:

NOTE: Using the “Contacts” application on both the SGSIII and Galaxy J5, you can back up and transfer your contacts via email.

  1. Launch “Contacts” on the Galaxy SIII
  2. Tap the “Contacts” tab
  3. If necessary, tap “Menu” > “Contacts to display” > “All contacts
  4. Press “Menu” > “Import / Export
  5. Tap “Export to SD card
  6. Open the email client on the SIII, compose a new email and make sure the contact backup file is attached to it
  7. Send the email to your own address
  8. On the Galaxy J5, open the email and download the attached file
  9. Import the file to your phonebook using the “Contacts” app and the “Import” option from the app’s menu

NOTE: After you have created the vCard file on the Galaxy SIII, you can transfer it to the Galaxy J5 by connecting both smartphones to your computer and manually copy-pasting it to the J5’s storage. Then, use the “Contacts” app to import it.

Using “Send Anywhere”:

NOTE: Another method to transfer contacts relies on third party apps, such as Send Anywhere. The app can be used to transfer contacts and other file types via a P2P connection without needing a computer.

  1. Go to the Play Store and install “Send Anywhere” on both Samsung devices
  2. Launch the application on both handsets
  3. On the SGSIII, tap “Send
  4. Select “Contacts” and choose the contacts you want to share
  5. Tap “Send
  6. Lastly, select a transfer method. You can tap “Receive” on the Galaxy J5 and enter the transfer code from the SGSIII, or tap “Generate QR Code” on the SIII and scan the code with the J5’s camera to begin the transfer
