Restore Contacts from a Samsung / Google Account:

  1. Sign in with the Google or Samsung account used for the backup
  2. Go to “Settings
  3. Scroll to “User and Backup” and tap “Accounts
  4. Select “Google” or “Samsung
  5. Tap your “email address” or “user name” at the top of the screen
  6. Turn on “Sync Contacts”, then tap “Menu” > “Sync now

Restore Contacts from the SD Card:

  1. Make sure the SD card containing the contacts backup
  2. Open the apps drawer
  3. Go to “Settings” and scroll to “Device
  4. Tap “Applications” > “Contacts
  5. Tap “Import / Export contacts” > “Import
  6. Tap “SD card” and choose to restore (import) the contacts on your “Google” account or “Device storage

Restore Media Files

From an SD Card:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Launch “My Files
  3. Scroll to “Local storage” and tap “SD card
  4. Tap “More” > “Edit
  5. Mark the check box associated with the media files you want to restore
  6. Tap “More” > “Move
  7. Select “Device storage
  8. If necessary, navigate to the desired target folder or tap “Create Folder
  9. When ready, tap “Move here

From a Windows PC:

  1. Connect the Galaxy J3 to your PC via USB
  2. Swipe the “Status” bar down and make sure the phone is connected as a “Media device (MTP)
  3. Launch an Explorer window on the PC ad navigate to the location of your media file backups
  4. Copy the files, and transfer them back on your phone storage (preferably in the “Media” directory)
  5. Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage from the system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB connector

From a Mac Computer:

  1. Establish a USB connection between the Galaxy J3 and Mac
  2. Make sure the phone is connected as a “Media device (MTP)” from the notification area
  3. On the Mac, launch Kies
  4. Inside Kies, click the “Back up / restore” tab
  5. Click the “Restore” tab and place a check box next to “Music”, “Photo” and other media categories you want to restore (Optionally, enable “Select all files”)
  6. Click “Restore” and follow any additional on-screen prompts if required
  7. Once the transfer is done, drag the phone’s virtual drive into the “Trash can”, and disconnect the device from the USB
