Back Up App Data:
- Tap “Apps” on the home screen
- Open “Settings”
- Tap “Backup & reset” under “Personal”
- You can enable “Back up my data” to back up Wi-Fi passwords, account data, and settings to your Google account
- Enable “Automatic restore” to allow your account to automatically restore data the next time you sign in
Back Up Contacts on a Google Account:
- Access the “Settings” menu
- Tap “Accounts” and select an account type (Google)
- Select your account
- Make sure “Contacts” is selected
- Tap “More” > “Sync now”
Back Up Contacts to Storage / SD:
- Open the phone’s “Settings” menu
- Scroll to “Device”
- Tap “Applications” > “Contacts”
- Tap “Import / Export contacts”
- Tap “Export” and select “SD card” or “Storage”
- Make sure you remember the file name for future use
- Tap “OK” to confirm and export (back up) the file
Back Up Media Files
On the SD Card:
- Make sure the SD card is installed on your phone
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch “My Files”
- Tap “Device storage” under “Local storage”
- Tap “More” > “Edit”
- Locate the media files you want to back up
- Tick the boxes associated with the desired media files
- Tap “More” > “Copy” > “SD card”
- Tap “Create” folder” or navigate to the desired backup folder
- Tap “Paste here”
On a Windows PC:
- Connect the Galaxy J7 to your PC via USB
- Drag the “Status” bar down on the home screen
- Ensure “Media device (MTP)” is selected
- On the PC, open the File Explorer
- Locate the media files on the phone and copy them
- Transfer the media files in the desired backup location on the phone
- After the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray
- Safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord
On a Mac Computer:
NOTE: In case Samsung Kies is already installed on your Mac then skip the first 3 steps below.
- Open the Internet browser on the Mac
- Visit Kies Support
- Click “Kies 3 for Mac” and install Kies on the Mac
- Connect the Galaxy J7 to your computer via USB
- On the phone’s home screen, drag the “Status” bar down
- Make sure “Media device (MTP)” is enabled
- Switch to the Mac and launch Kies
- Inside Kies, click the “Back up / restore” tab
- Click the “Backup” tab
- Select “Music”, “Photos”, and other types of media files you want to back up
- Click “Backup” and wait for the process to end
- Once done, drag the phone’s virtual drive from the desktop and into the “Trash can” to eject it
- Safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord
