Back Up Application Data:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Personal
  4. Tap “Backup & reset
  5. To back up app and account data, settings, and Wi-Fi passwords to your Google account, turn on “Back up my data
  6. To allow your account to restore data automatically upon the next login, enable “Automatic restore

Back Up Contacts on a Google / Samsung Account:

  1. Open the “Settings” menu
  2. Go to “Accounts
  3. Select an account type between Samsung or Google
  4. Choose the account you want to use for syncing contacts
  5. Enable “Contacts” if not already checked
  6. Tap “More” > “Sync now

Back Up Contacts on the SD Card:

  1. Open the phone’s “Settings” menu
  2. Scroll to “Device
  3. Tap “Applications” > “Contacts
  4. Tap “Import / Export contacts
  5. Select to “Export”, and choose “SD card
  6. Remember the backup file’s name for future use and tap “OK” to confirm

Back Up Media Files

Using the SD Card:

  1. Make sure your SD card is installed on the device
  2. Next, open the apps drawer
  3. Launch “My Files
  4. Under “Local storage”, tap “Device storage
  5. Tap “More” > “Edit
  6. Locate the media files you want to back up and check the boxes associated with them
  7. Tap “More” > “Copy
  8. Select “SD card
  9. Tap “Create folder” or navigate to the desired directory
  10. Tap “Paste here

On a Windows PC:

  1. Connect the Galaxy J1 Nxt to your PC via USB
  2. On the phone’s home screen, drag the “Status” bar down
  3. Enable “Media device (MTP)” if necessary
  4. On the computer, open the File Explorer
  5. Use the Explorer to locate the desired media files on your phone
  6. Copy the files and transfer them in the desired backup location on the computer
  7. After the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray, and safely disconnect the device from the USB cord

On a Mac Computer:

NOTE: If Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac, skip the first 3 steps below.

  1. Open the Internet browser on the Mac
  2. Visit Kies Support
  3. Click “Kies 3 for Mac” and follow the on-screen steps to install Kies on the Mac
  4. Next, connect the Galaxy J1 Nxt to your Mac via USB
  5. On the phone, enable “Media device (MTP)” from the status area, if necessary
  6. On the Mac, launch Kies
  7. Access the “Back up / restore” tab, and click the “Backup” tab
  8. Select “Music”, “Photos”, and other types of media files you want to back up
  9. Click “Backup” to begin the process
  10. After the backup is complete, eject the phone storage by dragging the virtual drive from the desktop into the “trash can
  11. Once storage is ejected, safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord
