Back Up App Data:
- Tap “Apps” on the home screen
- Open “Settings”
- Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset”
- To back up Wi-Fi passwords, app data, and settings to your account, enable “Back up my data”
- Turn on “Automatic Restore” to allow app data, settings, and Wi-Fi passwords to be automatically restored the next time you sign in with your Google backup account
Back Up Contacts Using a Samsung or Google Account:
- Launch “Contacts”
- Tap “More”
- Open “Settings”
- To save any contacts that are not saved on your Google or Samsung account already, tap “Move device contacts to”
- Go back to “Settings” and tap “Accounts”
- Select an account and tap “More”
- Tap “Sync now”
NOTE: Contacts backed up using the method above will be restored automatically the next time you sign in with your Google / Samsung account.
Back Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:
- Launch the Internet browser on your computer
- Head down to Samsung Smart Switch?
- Click to get “Samsung Smart Switch for PC”
- Install the app on your computer
- Once done, connect the Galaxy S7 Edge to your PC via USB
- If necessary, access the notification area, tap “Connected as a media device” and turn on “Media device (MTP)”
- If necessary, allow your computer to install any required drivers for the smartphone
- Next, launch “Smart Switch” on the computer
- Open the File Explorer on the PC and locate the desired files on your phone
- Drag the files and drop them in the desired backup location on the computer
- After the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray
- Safely disconnect the phone from the USB
Restore Media Files from a Windows PC:
- Follow the first 8 steps above
- Launch the File Explorer on the computer
- Navigate to the media files backed up on your computer
- Copy the files and transfer them back on the phone storage, preferably in the “Media” directory
- After the transfer is done, eject the phone storage and disconnect the device from the USB
Back Up Media Files on a Mac:
- Launch the Internet browser on the Mac
- Head down to Kies Support
- Click “Kies 3 for Mac” and install Kies on your computer
- Next, connect the Galaxy S7 Edge to your Mac via USB
- If necessary, drag the “Status” bar down and enable “Media device (MTP)”
- Open Kies on the Mac
- Access the “Back up / restore” tab and click the “Backup” tab
- Tick the check boxes next to “Music”, “Photo”, and other types of media files you want to back up
- Click “Backup”
- After the backup is done, drag the phone’s virtual drive from the desktop and into the “trash can” to eject it, and safely disconnect the device from the USB cord
Restore Media Files from a Mac:
- Follow the first 6 steps above
- Access the “Restore” tab in Kies
- Tick the check boxes associated with “Music”, “Photos”, and / or other types of media files you want to restore
- Click “Restore”. If necessary, follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process
- Once done, eject the phone storage by dragging and dropping its virtual drive from the desktop into the “trash can”
