Clear App Cache / Data:

NOTE: In case one of your applications doesn’t work as intended, freezes, crashes, or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the app’s cache / data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all the personal information stored within the app will be lost – such as profiles, saves, settings, high scores, credit card and login details etc. To avoid losing personal data, clear ONLY the application’s cache.

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Device
  4. Tap “Applications” and access “Application manager
  5. Swipe to “All” or “Downloaded
  6. Select the desired app
  7. Tap “Clear cache
  8. If necessary, tap “Clear data” > “OK” (read WARNING above)

Clear the Cache Partition:

NOTE: In case your phone freezes, crashes, or runs out of storage inexplicably and you’re considering master resetting it, you may want to try clearing the device’s cache partition first. This can yield similar results as a factory reset, without losing any personal data on the phone’s internal memory. To clear the cache partition:

  1. If necessary, turn off the phone
  2. Press and hold “Volume Up”, “Home”, and “Power” at the same time
  3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power
  4. When the “Android” logo appears, release the other two buttons and wait to gain access to Android System Recovery (this may take up to 60 seconds)
  5. Once you gain access to the Recovery menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “wipe cache partition
  6. Press “Power” to confirm
  7. After the cache partition is cleared, “Reboot system now” will be highlighted
  8. Press “Power” one last time to confirm and restart your phone

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t fix the issues, you can visit this thread for instructions on how you can factory reset the device instead.

Reboot in Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:

NOTE: If you have installed a third party app that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled by default.

  1. Turn off the phone if necessary
  2. Next, press and hold “Power”
  3. When the “Samsung” logo appears, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. After the phone finishes rebooting, release “Volume down”. You should see a “Safe Mode” watermark in the lower-left corner of the home screen
  5. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  6. Go to “Settings” and scroll to “Device
  7. Tap “Applications” > “Application manager
  8. Access “Downloaded” and select the app you wish to remove
  9. Tap “Uninstall” > “Uninstall
  10. To exit safe mode, press and hold “Power” and select “Restart
