Clear App Cache / Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps doesn’t work as intended, freezes, crashes, or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you can try solving these problems by clearing the app’s cache / data.

WARNING! When you clear an application’s data, all personal information stored within the app, including saves, settings, profiles, high scores, login and credit card details will be lost. To avoid losing personal data, clear only the app’s cache.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Applications
  4. Go to “Application manager
  5. Swipe to “Downloaded” or “All
  6. Select the desired app and tap “Clear cache
  7. If clearing the cache didn’t help, you can tap “Clear data” > “OK” (read WARNING above)

Wipe the Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, or runs out of storage inexplicably and you’re considering factory resetting it, you can try solving these issues by clearing the cache partition. This can yield similar results as a factory reset, without losing any personal data on the internal memory.

  1. Turn off the phone if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Home”, “Volume Up”, and “Power” at the same time
  3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power
  4. When the “Android” logo appears, release the other two buttons and wait to gain access to Android System Recovery
  5. Navigate the Recovery menu using the volume rocker, and highlight “Wipe cache partition
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. After the cache partition has been cleared, “Reboot system now” should be highlighted
  8. Press “Power” to confirm

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t solve the issues, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the phone.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: In case you have installed a third party app that causes problems and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled.

  1. Turn off the phone if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power” at the same time
  3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. Once the phone finishes restarting, release “Volume down”. A “Safe Mode” watermark should be shown in the lower-left corner of the home screen
  5. Open the “Apps” drawer and launch “Settings
  6. Scroll to “Device
  7. Tap “Applications” > “Application manager
  8. Go to “Downloaded
  9. Select the desired app and tap “Uninstall” two times
  10. To exit safe mode, simply press and hold “Power” and tap “Restart
