Back Up App Data:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings
  3. Scroll to “User and Backup” and tap “Backup and reset
  4. If needed, tap “Backup account” > “Add account” and sign in with your Google account
  5. Turn on “Back up my data” and “Backup account

Back Up Contacts Using a Google or Samsung Account:

  1. Open “Contacts
  2. Tap “More” > “Settings
  3. Tap “Move device contacts to
  4. Select a Google or Samsung account if necessary
  5. Return to the “Settings” menu
  6. Tap “Accounts” and select an account to use for syncing your contacts
  7. Ensure “Contacts” is checked
  8. Tap “More” > “Sync Now

Back Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:

  1. Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB
  2. At the prompt, enable “Media device (MTP)” / “File Transfer (MTP)”, or enable the option from the “notification” area
  3. Launch the File Explorer on the computer
  4. Using the Explorer, locate the media files stored on your phone
  5. Copy the files and paste them in the desired backup location on the PC storage
  6. Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray
  7. You can now safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord

Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:

NOTE: If Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac, skip the first 3 steps.

  1. Launch the Internet browser on the Mac
  2. Visit Kies Support
  3. Click “Kies 3 for Mac” and install the app on the computer
  4. Connect the Samsung Galaxy J Max to your Mac via USB
  5. When prompted, enable “Media device (MTP)” / “File transfer (MTP)”, or enable the option from the “notification” area
  6. Open Kies on the Mac and click the “Back up / restore” tab
  7. Click “Backup
  8. Tick the boxes linked with “Photos”, “Music”, and other media file types you want to back up
  9. Click “Backup”. If necessary, follow any on-screen steps that may appear
  10. Once you complete the backup, eject the phone storage by dragging the virtual drive from the desktop and dropping it into the “Trash can
  11. You can now safely disconnect the device from the USB
