Clear App Cache / Data:

NOTE: If one of your applications doesn’t work as it should, freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or causes other issues, you may be able to fix this behavior by clearing the app’s cache / data.

WARNING! When you clear an application’s data, all personal data stored within the app will be lost. This includes saved games, user profiles, settings, high scores, login and credit card information. To prevent losing data, clear only the application’s cache.

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings
  3. Go to “Applications” and tap “Application manager
  4. Access “All” or “Downloaded
  5. Select the desired app and tap “Clear cache
  6. If clearing the cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” > “OK” (check WARNING above)

Wipe the Cache Partition:

NOTE: In case your smartphone doesn’t work as intended, it freezes, crashes, or runs out of storage inexplicably and you’re considering factory resetting it, you can try solving these problems by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can lead to similar results as a factory reset, without losing your personal data from the phone’s internal memory.

  1. Turn off the phone if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power”, “Home” and “Volume Up” at the same time
  3. When the phone powers up, release all buttons
  4. At the “Android” icon, wait for roughly 30 seconds and you should then gain access to Android System Recovery
  5. Navigate the Recovery menu using the volume rocker. Press “Volume down” repeatedly to highlight “wipe cache partition
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. Once the cache is cleared, “Reboot system now” will be highlighted
  8. Press “Power” to confirm and reboot your device

NOTE: If wiping the cache partition didn’t solve the problems, you can visit this thread for instructions on how you can factory reset the phone.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: If you have installed a third party application on your phone that causes problems and prevents you from uninstalling it, you can easily remove the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled.

  1. If necessary, turn off the phone
  2. Press and hold “Power
  3. When the “Samsung” logo appears, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. After the phone reboots, a “Safe Mode” watermark should be shown in the lower-left corner of the home screen
  5. To uninstall an app, first go to “Settings
  6. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Applications
  7. Tap “Application manager” and swipe to “Downloaded
  8. Select the desired app and tap “Uninstall” (twice) to remove the application from the phone
  9. Once done, exit safe mode by restarting your device as you normally would. Press and hold “Power”, and tap “Restart
