Clear App Cache / Data:

NOTE: In case one of your apps doesn’t work as intended, it freezes, crashes, or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you might be able to fix these issues by clearing the application’s cache and / or data.

WARNING! When you clear an application’s data, your personal information stored within the app – including user profiles, saved games, credit card and login details, high scores etc. – will be deleted. To avoid losing personal app data, clear only the application’s cache.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Applications
  4. Tap “Application manager
  5. Go to “All” or “Downloaded
  6. Select the desired app and tap “Clear cache
  7. If necessary, tap “Clear data” > “OK

Clear the Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone doesn’t work as intended and runs out of storage inexplicably, you might be able to fix these issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can yield similar results as a factory reset without losing any personal data stored on the phone storage. To clear the cache partition:

  1. Make sure your phone is turned off
  2. Next, press and hold “Power”, “Home” and “Volume Up” at the same time
  3. At the “Samsung” / “Android” logo, release all buttons and wait for access to the “Android System Recovery” menu
  4. Once in Recovery, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “wipe cache partition
  5. Press “Power” to select the option
  6. Highlight “Yes” using “Volume down
  7. Press “Power” again
  8. Once the cache is cleared, “Reboot system now” should be highlighted
  9. Press “Power” to reboot your phone

Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:

NOTE: If you have installed a third party application that causes problems and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to easily remove the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled. To enter Safe Mode:

  1. First, ensure the phone is turned off
  2. Then, press and hold “Power
  3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down
  4. After the phone finishes restarting, release “Volume down”. A “Safe Mode” watermark should be visible in the lower-left corner of the screen
  5. To uninstall an app, first open “Settings
  6. Tap “Applications” and select the desired app
  7. Tap “Uninstall” two times to confirm and remove the app
  8. To exit Safe Mode, press and hold “Power”, then tap “Restart” at the prompt
