Back Up App Data:
- Tap “Apps” on the home screen
- Open “Settings”
- Scroll to “Personal”
- Tap “Backup & reset”
- Enable “Back up my data” to back up app data, Wi-Fi passwords, and settings to your Google account
- Enable “Automatic Restore” if you want app data and settings to be restored automatically upon reinstallation or when logging in with your Google account
Back Up Contacts Using a Google or Samsung Account:
- Launch “Contacts”
- Tap “More” > “Settings”
- If you have contacts on the phone that haven’t been synced with your account, tap “move device contacts to”
- Go to “Settings” and tap “Accounts”
- Select an account to sync the contacts with
- Tap “more” > “Sync now”
NOTE: Contacts backed up using this method can be automatically restored the next time you sign in with your Google or Samsung backup account
Back Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:
- Open the Internet browser on the computer
- Head down to Samsung Smart Switch?
- Click “Samsung Smart Switch for PC” and follow the on-screen steps to install the app on the PC
- Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB
- Enable “File Transfer (MPT)” / “Media device (MTP)” on the phone when prompted or from the “Notification” area
- Launch the File Explorer on the computer
- Locate the media files on the phone storage and copy them
- Transfer the files in the desired backup location on the computer storage
- After the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB port
Restore Media Files from a Windows PC:
- Follow the first 5 steps above
- Then, open the File Explorer on the computer and locate the media file backups on the PC storage
- Copy the backup files and transfer them on the phone storage (preferably in the “Media” directory or the folder(s) they originate from)
- After the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB port
Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:
NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps if Samsung Kies is already installed on your Mac.
- Open the Internet browser on the Mac and visit Kies Support
- Click “Kies 3 for Mac” and install the app on your computer
- Establish a USB connection between the Samsung device and Mac
- Enable “File Transfer (MTP)” / “Media device (MTP)” at the prompt or from the “Notification” area on the phone
- On the Mac, launch Kies and access the “Back up / restore” tab
- Go to the “Backup” tab
- Tock the boxes associated with “Photos”, “Music” and other media file types you want to back up
- Click “Backup” to start the process
- Once the backup is done, eject the phone storage by dragging the virtual storage drive from the desktop and dropping it into the “Trash can”
- You can now safely disconnect the phone from the USB port
Restore Media Files from a Mac Computer:
- Follow the first 5 steps above and then access the “Restore” tab
- Tick the boxes associated with “Photos”, “Music” and other media file types you want to restore
- Click “Restore” and follow the on-screen steps to complete the process
- Once done, eject the phone storage by dragging and dropping the virtual drive from the desktop and into the “Trash can”
- Safely disconnect the phone from the USB port
