Back Up App Data:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Personal
  4. Tap “Backup & reset
  5. Enable “Back up my data” to back up app data, Wi-Fi passwords, and settings to your Google account
  6. Enable “Automatic Restore” if you want app data and settings to be restored automatically upon reinstallation or when logging in with your Google account

Back Up Contacts Using a Google or Samsung Account:

  1. Launch “Contacts
  2. Tap “More” > “Settings
  3. If you have contacts on the phone that haven’t been synced with your account, tap “move device contacts to
  4. Go to “Settings” and tap “Accounts
  5. Select an account to sync the contacts with
  6. Tap “more” > “Sync now

NOTE: Contacts backed up using this method can be automatically restored the next time you sign in with your Google or Samsung backup account

Back Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:

  1. Open the Internet browser on the computer
  2. Head down to Samsung Smart Switch?
  3. Click “Samsung Smart Switch for PC” and follow the on-screen steps to install the app on the PC
  4. Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB
  5. Enable “File Transfer (MPT)” / “Media device (MTP)” on the phone when prompted or from the “Notification” area
  6. Launch the File Explorer on the computer
  7. Locate the media files on the phone storage and copy them
  8. Transfer the files in the desired backup location on the computer storage
  9. After the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB port

Restore Media Files from a Windows PC:

  1. Follow the first 5 steps above
  2. Then, open the File Explorer on the computer and locate the media file backups on the PC storage
  3. Copy the backup files and transfer them on the phone storage (preferably in the “Media” directory or the folder(s) they originate from)
  4. After the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB port

Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:

NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps if Samsung Kies is already installed on your Mac.

  1. Open the Internet browser on the Mac and visit Kies Support
  2. Click “Kies 3 for Mac” and install the app on your computer
  3. Establish a USB connection between the Samsung device and Mac
  4. Enable “File Transfer (MTP)” / “Media device (MTP)” at the prompt or from the “Notification” area on the phone
  5. On the Mac, launch Kies and access the “Back up / restore” tab
  6. Go to the “Backup” tab
  7. Tock the boxes associated with “Photos”, “Music” and other media file types you want to back up
  8. Click “Backup” to start the process
  9. Once the backup is done, eject the phone storage by dragging the virtual storage drive from the desktop and dropping it into the “Trash can
  10. You can now safely disconnect the phone from the USB port

Restore Media Files from a Mac Computer:

  1. Follow the first 5 steps above and then access the “Restore” tab
  2. Tick the boxes associated with “Photos”, “Music” and other media file types you want to restore
  3. Click “Restore” and follow the on-screen steps to complete the process
  4. Once done, eject the phone storage by dragging and dropping the virtual drive from the desktop and into the “Trash can
  5. Safely disconnect the phone from the USB port
