WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all personal data located on the phone’s internal memory will be deleted, including ringtones and media files, applications, contacts, downloaded content etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Data stored on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected. However, you can visit this thread for a guide on how to back up and restore personal data on the Samsung Galaxy On8.

Master Reset via Settings:

  1. Open the “Apps” drawer on the home screen
  2. Launch “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Personal
  4. Tap “Backup and reset
  5. Turn on or disable “Back up my data” and “Automatic restore
  6. Tap “Factory data reset” > “Reset device
  7. Assuming that your phone is protected by a PIN / password / lock screen, enter it
  8. Tap “Continue” > “Delete all

Master Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, or prevents you from resetting it via settings, alternatively you can try resetting it via the Android System Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses.

  1. Turn off the phone if necessary
  2. Then, press and hold “Power”, “Home” and “Volume Up” at the same time
  3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power
  4. When the “Android” logo appears, release “Home” and “Volume Up” too
  5. After a few moments you should gain access to the “Android Recovery Menu
  6. To navigate the menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly until you highlight “Wipe data / factory reset
  7. To select the highlighted option, press “Power
  8. Once the reset is done, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power” to restart your device

Check for Software Updates:

NOTE: After you factory reset your device, it’s recommended to check if new software updates are available for download. To do this:

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Scroll to and tap “About device
  3. Check if a new update is available, and if applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply available updates. NOTE: This process will require at least one reboot
