Edit Power Saving Mode:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to “Settings”
- Tap “Battery” under “System”
- Tap “Power saving mode” and set the option to ON
- Select a battery percentage at which Power saving mode turns on automatically
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Launch “Settings”
- Tap “Display” under “Device”
- Tap “Screen timeout”
- Select a lower value, such as “15 seconds”
- From the “Display” menu, turn off “Automatic brightness” if necessary
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By disabling the phone’s connectivity features when not in use, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Hotspot, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open “Settings”
- Scroll to “Connections” and tap “Tethering & Mobile hotspot”
- Tap the Hotspot switch to turn the feature OFF
- Go back to the home screen and swipe the “Status” bar down
- Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “Location” (GPS) tiles to disable these features
Use 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you want to conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open “Settings” and scroll to “Connections”
- Tap “More connection settings”
- Tap “Mobile networks” > “Network mode”
- Select “GSM only”
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes and thus they can potentially affect your device’s battery life even when no actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Go to “Settings”
- Scroll to “Device” and tap “Applications”
- Tap “Application manager”
- Swipe to “Download” and select the desired application
- Tap “Force stop” / “Disable” to turn the app OFF
- To remove the app from the phone, tap “Uninstall”
Disable Background Data:
- Open “Settings”
- Scroll to “Connections” and tap “Data usage”
- Tap “More”
- Tap “Restrict background data” > “OK” to confirm
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By setting your apps / accounts to sync less data, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Open “Settings”
- Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Accounts”
- Select the desired account
- Clear the check boxes next to the sync options you want to turn off
- Tap “Menu” > “Sync Now”
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements, and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check if new updates are available:
- Go to “Settings”
- Scroll to “System” and tap “About device”
- Tap “System updates”
- If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
