How-to: Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017): Restore Data, Contacts and Media Files

Restore Contacts from SD Card:

1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
2. Open “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
3. Tap “Applications” > “Contacts”
4. Tap “Import / Export contacts”
5. Select “Import” and choose “SD Card”
6. Select to import a single vCard file or multiple ones
7. If necessary, select the vCard file you want to restore
8. Select to restore contacts on “Device storage” or to sync them with “Google”

Restore Contacts from a Google Account:

1. Open “Settings”
2. Scroll to “User and Backup” and tap “Accounts”
3. Select “Google”
4. Tap the email address or user name at the top
5. Ensure the “Contacts” check box is ticked and tap “Menu” > “Sync Now”

Restore Media Files from an SD Card:

1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
2. Open “My Files”
3. Scroll to “Local storage” and tap “SD card”
4. Tap “More” > “Edit”
5. Check the boxes associated with the media files you want to restore
6. Tap “More” > “Move”
7. Select “Device storage”
8. Navigate to the desired target folder or tap “Create folder”
9. Tap “Move here” to confirm

Restore Media Files from a Windows Computer:

1. Connect the Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) to your computer via USB
2. Enable “Media device” / “File Transfer” when prompted or from the “Notification” area
3. On the computer, launch the File Explorer
4. Locate the media file backups on the computer and copy them
5. Transfer the files on the phone storage, preferably in the “Media” directory or the folders they originate from
6. Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB port

Restore Media Files from a Mac Computer:

1. Connect the Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) to your Mac via USB
2. Ensure “Media device (MTP)” / “File Transfer” from the pop-up or “Notification” area
3. Launch Kies on the Mac and access the “Back up / restore” tab
4. Access the “Restore” tab
5. Tick the boxes associated with “Music”, “Photos” and other media file types you want to restore, or tap “Select all”
6. Click “Restore” and follow any on-screen prompts that may follow
7. Once the process is done, eject the phone storage by dragging the virtual drive from the desktop and dropping it into the “Trash can”
8. You can now safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord
