Back Up App Data:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset
  4. Enable “Back up my data” to back up Wi-Fi passwords, settings and account data to your Google account
  5. Turn ON “Automatic restore” to allow app data to be restored automatically the next time you sign in with your backup account

Back Up Contacts to Storage or SD Card:

  1. Go to “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Applications
  3. Tap “Contacts” > “Import / Export contacts
  4. Select “Export
  5. Choose to export contacts on “Storage” or “SD Card
  6. Tap “OK” to confirm

Back Up Contacts on a Google Account:

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Tap “Accounts” > “Google
  3. Select the desired account and ensure “Contacts” is checked
  4. Tap “More” > “Sync now” to confirm

Back Up Media Files on the SD Card:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “My Files
  3. Scroll to “Local storage” and tap “Device storage
  4. Tap “More” > “Edit
  5. Locate and select the media files you want to back up
  6. Tap “More” > “Copy” > “SD Card
  7. Navigate to and select the desired folder, or tap “Create folder
  8. Tap “Paste here” to confirm

Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:

  1. Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB
  2. Turn ON “Media device” / “File Transfer” when prompted or from the “Notification” area
  3. Launch the File Explorer on the computer
  4. Locate and copy the media files on the phone
  5. Transfer the files in the desired backup location on the computer
  6. Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB cord

Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:

NOTE: You can skip the first 3 steps below if Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac.

  1. Launch the Internet browser on the Mac
  2. Head down to Kies Support
  3. Click “Kies 3 for Mac” to download and install Kies on the Mac
  4. Connect the Samsung phone to your Mac via USB
  5. On the Samsung device, enable “Media device” / “File Transfer” when prompted or from the “Notification” area
  6. Launch Kies on the Mac
  7. In Kies, access the “Back up / Restore” tab and go to “Backup
  8. Tick the boxes associated with “Photos”, “Music”, and other media file types you want to back up
  9. Click “Backup” to confirm
  10. After the backup is done, drag the phone’s virtual drive from the desktop and drop it into the “Trash can” to eject it
  11. You can now safely disconnect the phone from the USB port
