WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all data stored on the phone’s internal memory will be deleted. This includes ringtones and media files, apps, contacts, downloaded content etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Before you master reset your phone, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up data on the Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge. You can also visit this thread for a guide on how to restore data.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Access “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup and reset
  4. Optionally, turn ON “Back up my data” and “Restore
  5. Tap “Factory data reset” > “Reset device
  6. If your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter your PIN / pattern / password to proceed
  7. Tap “Delete all” > “Reset device” to confirm

Factory Reset via Android System Recovery:

NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via settings, alternatively you can reset the phone from the Android System Recovery menu. You can access the menu by performing a combination of button presses as follows:

  1. First turn the phone OFF if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power”, “Volume Up” and “Home” simultaneously
  3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power
  4. At the “Android” screen, release “Volume Up” and “Home” too
  5. Once you gain access to the Android Recovery menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “Wipe data / factory reset
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Yes – delete all user data
  8. Press “Power” to confirm

Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: After you have reset the phone, it’s recommended to check if OS updates are available for download.

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings” and scroll to “System
  3. Tap “About device” and check if an update is available
  4. If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply any available update (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
