Clear App Cache / Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps doesn’t work as intended, it crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as it should, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the app’s cache / data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including login and credit card information, save files, high scores, user profiles etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Access “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Applications” and go to “Application manager
  4. Access “Downloaded” or “All
  5. Tap the desired application
  6. Tap “Clear cache”. If clearing the cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” > “OK” to confirm (check WARNING above)

Clear the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: In case your phone freezes, crashes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, alternatively you can try fixing these problems by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can yield similar results to a factory reset without losing personal data on the phone’s internal memory.

  1. Turn the phone OFF if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power”, “Home” and “Volume Up” at the same time
  3. At the “Samsung” screen, release “Power
  4. At the “Android” screen, release “Home” and “Volume Up
  5. Once you gain access to the Android Recovery menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “wipe cache partition
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. Once the cache is cleared, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power

NOTE: If clearing the phone’s cache partition didn’t help, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the device.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:

NOTE: If you have installed a third party app that causes problems and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app from the phone while in Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled.

  1. Turn the phone OFF if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power
  3. At the “Samsung” screen, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. Once the phone reboots, release “Volume down”. NOTE: a “Safe Mode” watermark should be visible in the lower-left corner of the home screen
  5. Next, to remove an app, first open “Settings
  6. Then scroll to “Device” and tap “Applications
  7. Tap “Application manager
  8. Go to “Downloaded
  9. Select the desired application and tap “Uninstall” two times to confirm
  10. After the app has been removed, you can exit Safe Mode by rebooting your device as you would do normally. Press and hold “Power
