Back Up App Data:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings” and scroll to “Personal
  3. Tap “Backup & reset
  4. Enable “Back up my data” to back up Wi-Fi passwords, settings, and account data to your Google account
  5. Enable “Automatic restore” to allow app data to be restored automatically the next time you sign in with your backup account

Back Up Contacts to the SD Card or Storage:

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Device
  3. Tap “Applications” > “Contacts
  4. Go to “Import / Export contacts
  5. Select to “Export” and select “Storage” or “SD card
  6. Tap “OK

Back Up Contacts on a Google Account:

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Access “Accounts” and tap “Google
  3. Select the desired Google account
  4. Ensure “Contacts” is checked
  5. Tap “More” > “Sync now” to confirm

Back Up Media Files on the SD Card:

  1. Launch “My Files
  2. Scroll to “Local storage” and tap “Device storage
  3. Tap “More” > “Edit
  4. Locate and select the media files you want to back up
  5. Tap “More” > “Copy” > “SD Card
  6. Navigate to, and select the desired destination folder, or tap “Create folder
  7. Tap “Paste here” to confirm

Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:

  1. Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB
  2. Enable “File Transfer” / “Media device” when prompted or from the “Notification” area
  3. Launch the File Finder on the computer
  4. Locate and copy the desired media files on the phone
  5. Paste the files in the desired backup location on the computer storage
  6. Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB cord

Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:

NOTE: If Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac, you can skip the first 3 steps below.

  1. Launch the Internet browser on the Mac
  2. Head down to Kies Support
  3. Click “Kies 3 for Mac” to download and install Kies on the Mac
  4. Connect the Samsung device to your Mac via USB
  5. On the smartphone, enable “File Transfer” / “Media device” at the prompt or from the “Notification” area
  6. Launch Kies on the Mac
  7. Inside Kies, access the “Back up / Restore” tab
  8. Go to “Backup
  9. Tick the boxes associated with “Photos”, “Music” and other file types you want to back up
  10. Click “Backup” to start the process
  11. Once done, eject the phone storage by dragging the virtual drive from the desktop and dropping it into the “trash can
  12. Safely disconnect the device from the USB cord
