Back Up & Restore App Data:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Personal
  4. Tap “Backup & reset
  5. Enable “Back up my data” to back up Wi-Fi passwords, app data and settings to your account
  6. Enable “Automatic Restore” to allow app data and settings to be restored automatically when reinstalling apps or logging on with your backup account

Back Up Contacts on a Samsung or Google Account:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Contacts
  3. Tap “more
  4. Go to “Settings
  5. To save phone contacts on your Samsung or Google account before the backup, tap “move device contacts to
  6. To proceed, access “Accounts” in “Settings
  7. Select the desired Samsung or Google account
  8. Tap “more” > “Sync Now

NOTE: Contacts backed up using this method can be automatically restored the next time you sign in with your Google or Samsung account.

Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:

  1. Open the Internet browser on the computer
  2. Visit Samsung Smart Switch?
  3. Click “Samsung Smart Switch for PC” and install the app on the computer
  4. Connect the Samsung phone to your computer via USB
  5. Enable “Media device” / “File Transfer” when prompted or from the “Notification” area
  6. Open the File Explorer on the computer
  7. Navigate to and copy the media files on the phone
  8. Transfer the files in the desired backup location on the PC storage
  9. Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB cord

Restore Media Files from a Windows PC:

  1. Follow the first 5 steps in the guide above
  2. Launch the File Explorer on the computer
  3. Locate the media file backups on the PC storage
  4. Copy and paste the files back on the phone storage, preferably in the “Media” folder(s)
  5. Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord

Back Up Media Files on a Mac:

NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps if Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac.

  1. Launch the Internet browser on the Mac
  2. Visit http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/app/kies
  3. Click “Download for Mac” and follow the on-screen prompts to install Kies
  4. Connect the Samsung phone to your computer via USB
  5. Enable “Media device” / “File Transfer” when prompted or from the “Notification” area
  6. Launch Kies on the Mac
  7. Click the “Back up / restore” tab in Kies
  8. Go to the “Back up” tab and tick the boxes associated with “Music”, “Photos” and other media file types you want to back up
  9. Click “Backup
  10. Once the backup is complete, drag the phone’s virtual drive from the desktop and drop it into the “trash can” to eject it
  11. You can safely disconnect the phone from the USB port

Restore Media Files from a Mac Computer:

  1. Follow the first 5 steps above
  2. Launch Kies on the Mac
  3. In Kies, click the “Back up / restore” tab
  4. Access the “Restore” tab
  5. Tick the boxes associated with “Photos”, “Music” and other media file types to restore
  6. Click “Restore” to start the sync. If necessary, follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process
  7. Once the process is done, eject the phone storage by dragging the virtual drive from the desktop and dropping it into the “Trash can
  8. You can now safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord
