Clear App Data/Cache:

NOTE: In case one of your applications freezes, crashes, doesn’t work as intended or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you can try solving these issues by clearing the app’s cache/data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted. This includes user profiles, high scores, save files, settings, credit card and login credentials etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Applications
  4. Tap “Application manager
  5. Swipe to “All” or “Downloaded
  6. Select the desired app and tap “Clear cache
  7. If clearing the cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” > “OK” (check WARNING above)

Clear the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try solving these issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can lead to results similar to a factory reset without losing any personal data on the phone.

  1. Turn the phone OFF if necessary
  2. Then, press and hold “Power”, “Volume Up” and “Home” at the same time
  3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power
  4. At the “Android” screen, release “Home” and “Volume Up” as well
  5. Once in Recovery, press “volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “Wipe cache partition
  6. Press “Power” to confirm
  7. Wait for the cache to be cleared and then highlight “Reboot system now
  8. Press “Power” to confirm

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t help, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the smartphone instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: If you have installed a third party app that causes issues and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled.

  1. Turn the phone OFF if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power
  3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. Once the phone finishes resetting, release all buttons. NOTE: a “Safe Mode” label should be shown in the lower-left area of the home screen
  5. To remove an app, first launch “Settings
  6. Then scroll to “Device” and tap “Applications
  7. Tap “Application manager
  8. Go to “Downloaded
  9. Select the app you want to remove
  10. Tap “Uninstall” two times to confirm and remove the app from the phone
  11. Once done, you can exit Safe Mode by power-cycling your phone as you would do normally. Simply press and hold “Power” and tap “Reboot
