Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps doesn’t work as intended, takes up too much storage inexplicably etc. you can try fixing these issues by clearing the app’s cache and/or data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted. This includes settings, user profiles, high scores, save files, credit card and login information etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings” and tap “Apps
  3. Select the desired app and go to “Storage
  4. Tap “Clear cache” to clear the app’s cache
  5. If clearing the cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” (check WARNING above)

Wipe the Cache Partition:

NOTE: In case your phone crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try fixing these issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can yield similar results as a factory reset, without losing any personal data stored on the device.

  1. First make sure the phone is powered off
  2. Press and hold “Volume UP” and “Home” at the same time, then press and hold “Power” too
  3. When the “Android” logo appears, release all buttons and wait upwards to a minute to gain access to Android System Recovery
  4. From the Recovery menu, press “volume down” repeatedly to highlight “wipe data / factory reset
  5. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  6. Press “Volume down” to highlight “wipe cache partition
  7. Press “Power” to confirm
  8. Use “volume down” to highlight “Yes” and press “Power
  9. After the cache partition is cleared, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power

NOTE: In case clearing the cache partition didn’t solve the problems, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: In case you have installed a third party app that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you can try uninstalling the app from Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled.

  1. Turn the phone Off if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power” past the model name screen
  3. When the “Samsung” logo appears, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. Keep “Volume down” pressed until the phone finishes rebooting. NOTE: a “Safe Mode” watermark should be shown in the lower area of the home screen
  5. To remove an app, open “Settings” and access “Apps
  6. Then select the desired application and tap “Uninstall” two times
  7. To exit Safe Mode, press and hold “Power” and tap “Restart” in the pop-up
