Back Up App Data:

  1. Open the apps drawer and launch “Settings
  2. Scroll to and tap “Cloud and accounts
  3. Tap “Backup & restore
  4. Enable “Back up my data” to back up app data, settings, Wi-Fi passwords etc. to your Google account
  5. Enable “Automatic restore” to allow app data, settings etc. to be restored when reinstalling apps or signing in with your Google account

Back Up Contacts:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings
  3. Tap “Cloud and accounts” > “Accounts
  4. Select the desired account to use for contact syncing
  5. Tap “Menu” > “Sync Now

Back Up Contacts to SD Card:

  1. Launch “Contacts
  2. Tap “Menu” > “Settings
  3. If necessary, tap “Contacts to display” and select “All Contacts
  4. Tap “Import/Export contact” > “Export to SD Card
  5. Press “OK

Back Up Media Files on the Phone Storage:

  1. Open “My Files
  2. Tap “Internal storage
  3. Tap “Menu” > “Share
  4. Select the media files you want to back up
  5. Tap “Share” and select the desired location for the backup

Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:

  1. Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB
  2. Enable “Media device” / “File transfer” when prompted or from the “Notification” area
  3. Launch the File Explorer on the computer
  4. Locate the media files on the phone
  5. Copy and transfer the files in the desired backup location on the PC
  6. Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB cord

Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:

NOTE: In case Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac, skip the first 3 steps below.

  1. Launch the Internet browser on the Mac
  2. Head down to Samsung Kies
  3. Click “Download for Mac” and install Kies on the computer
  4. Connect the Samsung phone to your Mac via USB
  5. Enable “File Transfer” / “Media device” when prompted or from the “Notification” area
  6. Open Kies on the Mac
  7. Access the “Back up / Restore” tab
  8. Click the “Backup” tab
  9. Tick the boxes associated with “Photos”, “Music” and other media file types you want to back up
  10. Click “Backup” to start the process
  11. After the backup is complete, eject the phone storage by dragging the phone’s virtual drive from the desktop and dropping it into the “trash can
  12. You can safely disconnect the phone from the USB port
