Back Up App Data:

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Scroll to and tap “Cloud and accounts
  3. Tap “Backup & restore
  4. Enable “Back up my data” to back up Wi-Fi passwords, settings, and account data with your Google account
  5. Enable “Automatic restore” to allow data to be automatically restored when signing in with the backup account or reinstall applications

Back Up Contacts:

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Tap “Cloud and accounts” > “Accounts
  3. Tap the account you want to use for syncing the contacts
  4. Ensure “contacts” is enabled
  5. Tap “Menu” > “Sync Now

Back Up Contacts to SD Storage:

  1. Open “Contacts
  2. Tap “Menu” > “Settings
  3. If necessary, tap “Contacts to display” and select “All contacts
  4. Tap “Import/Export contacts
  5. Tap “Export to SD card” > “OK

Back Up Media Files on the Phone Storage:

  1. Open the “Samsung” folder
  2. Launch “My Files
  3. Tap “Internal storage
  4. Tap “Menu” > “Share
  5. Select the content you want to back up
  6. Tap “Share” and select the location you want to use for the backup

Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:

  1. Connect the Android device to the computer via USB
  2. Enable “Media device” / “File Transfer” when prompted or from the “Notification” area
  3. Open the File Explorer on the computer
  4. Locate the desired media files on the phone storage
  5. Copy and paste the files to the desired backup location on the computer
  6. Once done, safely disconnect the phone from the USB port

Back Up Media Files To a Mac Computer:

NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps if Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac.

  1. Launch the Internet browser on the Mac
  2. Head down to https://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/app/kies
  3. Click “Download for Mac” and install Kies on the computer
  4. Connect the Samsung phone to the Mac via USB and enable “File Transfer” / “Media device” when prompted or from the Notification shade
  5. Open Kies on the Mac
  6. Access the “Back up / restore” tab
  7. Go to the “Backup” tab
  8. Tick the boxes associated with “Photos”, “Music” and other media file types you want to back up
  9. Click “Backup” to start the process
  10. Once the backup is done, eject the phone storage by dragging and dropping the virtual drive from the desktop and into the “trash can” and safely disconnect the phone from the USB
