Back Up App Data:

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Go to “Cloud and accounts” and tap “Backup & Restore
  3. Enable “Back up my data” to back up app data, settings, and passwords to your backup account
  4. Enable “Automatic Restore” to allow app data, settings, and passwords to be automatically restored when reinstalling apps or signing in with the backup account

Back Up Contacts:

  1. Open “Contacts
  2. Access “Cloud and account” > “Accounts
  3. Select the account you want to use for backing up contacts
  4. Make sure the “Contacts” tick box is checked
  5. Tap “Menu” > “Sync Now

Back Up Contacts to SD Storage:

  1. Launch “Contacts
  2. Tap “Menu” > “Settings
  3. If necessary, switch to “All contacts
  4. Tap “Import/Export” > “Export to SD
  5. Tap “OK

Back Up Media Files on the Phone Storage:

  1. Launch “My Files
  2. Go to “Internal storage
  3. Tap “Menu” > “Share
  4. Select the desired contacts
  5. Tap “Share
  6. Select the desired backup location

Back Up Media Files on a PC:

  1. Establish a USB connection between the Android phone and computer
  2. On the phone, enable “Media device” / “File Transfer” when prompted or from the Notification area
  3. Navigate to the media files on the phone
  4. Copy and paste the files to the desired backup location on the PC
  5. After the process completes, safely disconnect the phone from the USB port

Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:

NOTE: You can skip the first 3 steps if Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac.

  1. Open the Internet browser on the Mac
  2. Visit https://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/app/kies
  3. Click “Download for Mac” and install the app
  4. Establish a USB connection between the smartphone and Mac
  5. On the phone, enable “File Transfer” / “Media device” when prompted or from the Notification area
  6. Launch Kies on the Mac and access the “Back up / Restore” tab
  7. Go to the “Backup” section and tick the check boxes associated with “Photos” “Music” and other media file types you want to back up
  8. When ready, click “Backup
  9. After the process completes, eject the phone storage by dragging the phone’s virtual drive from the desktop and dropping it over the trash can to eject it
