Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try solving these issues by clearing the app’s cache/data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including login information, save files, profiles etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Go to “Apps”
  3. Select the desired app and go to “Storage”
  4. Tap “Clear cache”
  5. If clearing the app’s cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” (check the WARNING above)

Wipe the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your device crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can have results similar to a factory reset without losing personal data on the device.

  1. Ensure the phone is powered off
  2. Press and hold “Home” and “Volume Up” at the same time, then press and release “Power’
  3. At the Android screen release the buttons and wait for access to Android Recovery
  4. In Recovery, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “wipe data/factory reset”
  5. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  6. Highlight “Wipe cache partition” and press “Power”
  7. Highlight “Yes” then press “Power” again
  8. After the process is done, ensure “Reboot system now” is highlighted” and press “Power” one last time to confirm

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t help, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: If one of your third-party applications causes issues and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to uninstall the app while in Safe Mode, where all third-party apps are disabled by default.

  1. Turn the phone Off if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power”
  3. At the “Samsung” screen, release “Power” and quickly press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. Once the phone finishes rebooting, release the buttons. Note that a “Safe mode” watermark should be shown in the lower area of the home screen
  5. To remove an app, open “Settings” then go to “Apps”
  6. Select the desired app and tap “Uninstall”
  7. Once the app has been removed, exit Safe Mode by rebooting the device as you would do normally
