Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your applications freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as it should, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the app’s cache/data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, your personal data stored in the app will be deleted, including login information, high scores, user profiles, customized settings, login information etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Go to “Apps
  3. Select the desired app and tap “Storage
  4. Tap “Clear cache
  5. If clearing the app’s cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” (read the WARNING above)

Clear the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering a factory reset, alternatively you can try solving these issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can lead to results similar to a factory reset without losing personal data on the phone.

  1. Turn the phone Off
  2. Press and hold “Power” “Home” and “Volume Up” at the same time
  3. At the Android screen release the keys
  4. Once in Android Recovery, press “volume down” repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight “Wipe data/factory reset
  5. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  6. Highlight “Wipe cache partition” and press “Power
  7. Highlight “Yes” and press “Power” to confirm
  8. Once done, ensure “Reboot system now” is highlighted and press “Power” one last time

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t help, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: If one of your third-party apps causes issues and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app while in Safe Mode where all third-party apps are disabled by default.

  1. Turn the phone Off
  2. Press and hold “Power
  3. At the “Samsung” logo release “Power” and instead, quickly press and hold “Volume down
  4. Release the buttons after the phone reboots. Note that a Safe Mode watermark should be visible in the lower area of the home screen
  5. To remove an app, first open “Settings
  6. Next go to “Apps” and select the desired app
  7. Tap “uninstall
  8. To exit Safe Mode, restart your device
