Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps freezes, crashes, or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing the issues by clearing the app’s cache or data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including login information, personalized settings, user profiles, save files etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app cache.

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Go to “Apps” and select the desired app
  3. Tap “Storage” > “Clear cache
  4. Tap “OK
  5. If clearing the app cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” (check the WARNING above)

Clear the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: if your phone crashes, freezes, or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try fixing the issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can have results similar to a factory reset without losing personal data from the device.

  1. Turn the phone Off
  2. Press and hold “Power” “Volume Down” and “home” at the same time
  3. At the Android screen, release the buttons and wait for access to Android Recovery
  4. Press “Volume down” to navigate the menu and highlight “Wipe cache partition
  5. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  6. Highlight “Yes” and press “Power” to confirm
  7. Once done, ensure “Reboot system now” is highlighted and press “Power

NOTE: if clearing the cache partition didn’t help, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the device instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: if one of your third-party apps causes problems and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app while in Safe Mode where all third-party apps are disabled by default.

  1. Turn the phone Off if needed
  2. Press and hold “Power
  3. At the Samsung logo, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. After the phone finishes rebooting, release the volume key. Note that a “Safe Mode” watermark should be visible in the lower area of the home screen
  5. To remove an app, open “Settings
  6. Go to “Apps” and select the desired app
  7. Tap “Uninstall” two times to confirm
  8. Once done, reboot your phone normally to exit Safe Mode
